If you make a list of the top 100 horror films and don't include The Descent, only the best horror film of the past 20 years,* then you just don't like horror movies.

*I'll listen to arguments for some other movies, but The Descent is certainly in the conversation. My point is, it's a scary damn movie. And I don't know many horror film fans who don't love it.

Silence of the Lambs, Jaws, and Invasion of the Body Snatchers I would certainly not classify as horror films, merely thrillers and sci-fi in BS case. They can be frightening, but they're not horror.

Wow, I'd completely disagree. All three or horror.

The borderline thriller on that list is Dressed to Kill, but even that's questionable.

I guess I'm the only one that flat out likes this list. It includes pretty much all the films in my Top 10. That's impressive. It's not perfect, but no list is perfect unless you are talking about the person who made it

15 The Exorcist (1973) *should #1 or #2 easily

All of these should be higher -
27 Dawn of the Dead (1978)
29 Halloween (1978)
30 The Evil Dead (1981)

I always considered The Fly, Alien, and some similar ones on the list SciFi.

No EVENT HORIZON as others already mentioned!

I'd say Alien is clearly horror set in a sci fi setting.

Kind of my point, if you are going to consider the scifi/horrorish movies, Event Horizon needs to be there.

The Exorcist is easily number 1.....followed by Halloween!

But the original TCSM was scary as hell.

Too many 100 year old movies!

The Ring is the best horror film I've seen since the 80's.

I also wouldn't call Silence of the Lambs horror. And I've never thought of Deliverance as horror.

I've only seen 15 movies or so on that list. I wouldn't call Blair Witch Project "great".

Disagree with this. I think The Ring is a very effective horror movie. It has a great, creepy atmosphere throughout.
