Does anyone have any experience or insight into this program? It seems like an interesting opportunity to cross an MBA with an advanced engineering degree.

Biggest question I guess is would it be worth it if my company would pay for it?

For you? I don't see why not.

In my opinion, any graduate degree you can get without paying for is worthwhile.

I agree. You might go through a pretty tough year or two while working and attending school, however. To the OP, if you can take night classes, it may be worth it, but if you need to lose your salary for 2 years, it might not be.

The program is supposed to be set up for professionals with courses offered after hours. I was just curious if anyone here had any experience with the program, instructors and classes as far as applicability.

From the looks of that program it has nothing to do with "advanced engineering" and is an advanced management degree focused around engineering.

I did the MBA program at UNO. When I went to talk to the advisers, they never mentioned I could do both the MBA and engineering management masters in almost the same amount of time so I never pursued it. I worked with a couple of people who started in the program after me and they both did it. I believe there are only about eight or so classes that they had to take that I did not take as an MBA student. Taking these classes allowed them to skip the seven foundation courses that you would have to take if you are doing just the MBA as a non-business undergrad. As a result, you can get the MBA and Masters of Engineering Management in almost the same amount of time as it takes to get just the MBA. The only other difference is that they had to give an extra presentation for the capstone class that everyone takes at the end.

I am not surprised, as I had just phoned the engineering department an hour ago, and I was quickly reminded why I hate people in academia.

"Ya, I can't answer your transcript issues over the phone, so you are probably going to have to come in"

Sure, I have a pretty flexible schedule, when is a good time?

"I'm really busy at this time." (Silence)

Soooo, Any idea when I can come in?

"No." (silence).

No idea at all?

"Call me back in two weeks and maybe it will be not as busy then."

The conversation was even more awkward than this. I'm sure her job is so busy it requires 14 day notice for assisting potential students. Lots of "tough shite" declarative sentences followed by silence without remotely offering a solution.

I realize that. He is looking to pair it with the MBA though. To get just a MBA as a non-business undergrad would be 57 hours because you are required to take 8 undergrad level foundation courses before starting the MBA courses. If you do the engineering management program, you get to skip the foundation courses and the three electives and capstone count toward the MBA if chosen correctly.

Have you looked into the MBA at tulane similar to this? Its an energy-focsed MBA geared towards engineers. not sure if there's a $ cap your company is willing to pay. Might be worth checking out.
