Aswath Damodaran is a Professor of Finance at the New York University. He's made some very accurate share valuations in the recent past-predicting Apple's peak and Facebook's low, to name a couple. And now, after doing his math on Tesla, Damodaran concluded that Tesla is worth $67.12.

I thought some of the comments in response were interesting. I'm certainly not one to debate the science here, but I agree that trying to value Tesla is a lot like trying to predict what a 3 year old is going to grow up to accomplish.

The car catching on fire after hitting road debris will actually lower that valuation

at predictions to four digits.

A prediction of "oh, somewhere between 60 and 80 bucks on average" would be more honest.

One of my favorites was a WSJ article (they should have known better) talking about a European deal worth an estimated 10,654,312 dollars or something like that.

Of course, the real estimate had been 10 million Euros and the writer had used the Euro-dollar exchange rate, which is far more precise than the estimate.

Ive actually heard him joke about how he breaks valuations out to the penny pretty much as a troll.

The fact that it is an estimate is implied.

I took his valuation course via iTunes U and he is super interesting.

That was totally unrelated to it being a tesla.

Google Should Buy Tesla

very interesting article with a lot of compelling reasons. I'll be keeping my eye on this.

Stock down to $139 today. Big drop after 3Q numbers released.

Or was it because a 3rd car has now caught fire?
quote:

Having recently gone through two “fire incidents” after an accident in the past 5 weeks, a third fire Model S has caught fire under potentially a similar condition.

And while the first two fires happened after the Tesla plug-in sedan had taken some serious damage, this Model S looks to have suffered less damage before the occurrence

quote:

A Tennessee Highway Patrol spokeswoman stated that “The driver, struck a tow hitch that was in the middle of a lane, which damaged the car’s undercarriage and caused the fire.”

crappy car
