California Study Suggests Marijuana a Substitute for Alcohol

LINK

I find that knowledge is power and the only way people will be educated is by information. Information is the key to the end of prohibition, IMO. I find the fight to end prohibition pretty fascinating. I also enjoy seeing opponents of legalizing recycle 3rd grade DARE program material.

quote:

Based on existing empirical evidence, we expect that the legalization of recreational marijuana in Colorado and Washington will lead to increased marijuana consumption coupled with decreased alcohol consumption. As a consequence, these states will experience a reduction in the social harms resulting from alcohol use.

I haven't gotten to read this study yet because I'm about to head out. Someone quote the highlights if you have time.

If I don't, I tend to projectile vomit at some point in the evening. I rally quicker afterwards though.

I cant touch hard liquor if I'm stoned. I'll sip on some craft beers when stoned, but very rarely get drunk. Usually weed + alcohol = tired as frick.

my favorite argument is the "we have bigger things to worry about right now" BS, as if both state and federal governments are spending 40 hours a week working hard on our fiscal and economic issues.

also, i don't see the religious right changing on this anytime soon. maybe we can get the votes without them?

The religious right is dying out. A majority of the people in the US support legalization. Hell, even in Louisiana a majority of citizens support it.

I should have said the GOP won't change its position anytime soon.

The GOP is also the laughing stock of the nation.

IDK, a lot of the new blood in the GOP is more open to legalization.

They might be forced to change their position on it to get more young voters as well.

I think its safe to say that within a decade a majority of the country will have legal weed.

The fact that they needed a study for this is kinda dumb haha

But it is true. Smoke and stay home watch tv. Drink go out fight frick (kids, std) or drive

All very bad potential consequences. Weed people stay home and play video games and eat Cheetos. Yet somehow it's the devil

The religious right have no money. The real challenge is from the prison, pharm, and alcohol lobby.

Even they are starting to lose the fight. I think the legalization movement has too much momentum to be stopped.

Without a doubt it's coming. Once Washington and Oregon lifted prohibition, it was the beginning of the snowball effect. It is sad that it has taken this long.

Hell even Arkansas had a medical marijuanna provision on the ballot last year that was narrowly defeated. Who woulda thunk that?

I've always said I'd rather my kids smoke weed than drink all the time.
