I've been debating for a while now whether or not to throw this on here or not, and after reading through quite a few of the threads I realized a lot of you guys are very knowledgeable and would like to get some different opinions. Anyways,

Info: 23 and married. Finishing up my 4 years in the army shortly after the Holiday season, and heading back to Knoxville. I've got some options after getting out, which I'm thankful for but don't have a clue in which direction to head in.

- I'm blessed enough to have had an offer extended to me should I decide to take it, with, the best way I can describe it as, a Swat style security firm for the Oak Ridge National Labs. Starting off at around $50k a year with benefits.

- I've also got my GI bill worth $80k for education, that I can use on whatever degree I can get. (I'd love to do either Environmental engineering or Business MGMT/Marketing).

-The ultimate goal is to one day start a company or a franchise(and gradually open up another franchise, and another etc.) Until financially I'm where I'd like to be. The goal is to have the first one up and running by no later then 32-35.

I'm torn on whether or not to take the job with the security firm after getting out and jumping into something I know I can live comfortably with, buy a house in a few years, but never truly be happy with my profession or where I want to be financially.. or Get back in school and take it on the chin financially for the time I'm in school and the time it's going to take to find a position. But try and get into a field my heart is at more, and having the security that comes with the degree

Either way the ultimate goal is to own my own company or buy into a franchise.
I'm not sure of which angle to head in with the getting into franchises right now, so I couldn't give you guys a definitive answer on that yet, without atleast a few more months of researching it.

I'm 23, she's 22(No pics, on cell). Wife is a medical assistant. We've got no bills outside of cell phone/internet & car insurance. We just recently paid our car off, and have pretty decent credit. By the time I'm out in a few months, we'll be lucky enough to have just under $25k in savings, so we've got a little nest egg going back home.

Any thoughts/opinions on how you guys would do things given the circumstances would be greatly appreciated. TIA guys

Sorry if tl:dr and the wall of text

Is there a time period in which you have to use your GI Bill?

Personally, I'd get my education first.

In your situation, I would get a part time job and take as many classes as you can each semester. You could easily be done in 3 years while not completely giving up on your earning ability.

Go to school for environmental engineering. Work in industry for a few years. Open consulting firm after getting experience.

It's good for 10 years from the day I finish up my contract. So somewhere around early 2024.

Thanks for the advice everyone

As someone who has seen a bunch of GI Bill issues, make sure to get everything in writing and get the exact terms clarified. Trust me.
