Comic Nerd Thread: Marvel changes Tony Stark's origin(Spoilers)

Since the conception of Iron Man, Howard Stark has always been drawn to look like an older Tony Stark. In the films, Dominic Cooper and John Slattery
looks like Tony Stark right? Well now the son who looks exactly like Howard and shares his genius is adopted and has a secret brother who may be superpowered that has been tucked away in hospital all these years.
Marvel-why so stupid?

Well that's just dumb. The whole point of Tony Stark is that he's not superhuman, unless being a genius is considered superhuman. fricking stupid.

frick marvel. That pretty much ruins iron man, the stark legacy, and everything about Tony

While my natural reaction is geek-rage, the whole thing will probably be some great conspiracy plot by Arno ( the evil Iron Man of 2020) to take away Stark Industries.
Might be a great story, but Marvel and DC are so desperate for readers, they'll leak any bit of info that will get them press.

Exactly, Tony Stark is basically Howard Stark 2.0. I find it so odd considering that Iron Man is Marvel's second most popular IP at this point. The character has starred in four movies and the second Iron Man,along with Captain America featured Howard Stark in a prominent role or important to the story. So now the masses are familiar with the hero's father. He maybe the most fleshed father of superhero out there. Now you change the dynamic of this relationship?
I'm not sure if I'll be more upset if they don't update this in the movies or if they do.

Hey, that's not fair to Batman.

I don't know how much movie goers that check out the books will care but this is still pure retardation.
So I guess now they'll drag out, for years upon years, the mystery of who his biological parents are and the story of why they gave him up.

Its part of the comic book world. The need to come up with fresh story-lines month after month (and the need to sell books) is always leading them to come up with these outlandish ret-cons, with deaths and resurrections, etc. etc.

Yep Met is right this won't be a single status quo.

I don't think they should ever stop thanking RDJ for this. Iron Man wasn't nearly this high up the ladder before the first movie.
I don't think he was even the most popular Avenger.
Spiderman comic spoilers below for those that haven't read lately:
I'm not a big fan of Spiderman, books or movies, but his death and replacement with Octavius seems like a more natural story extension than ret-conning Stark's origin. The Spiderman move seemed much less like a stunt than this does.

Quoted spoilers
That was a radical idea that turned out to be very well thought through and is working well while at the same time, is obviously not a permanent status quo change.
Batman comic spoilers:
Synder's introduction of a lost Wayne brother in the Court of Owl's story was more lazy ret-conning like this Tony Stark adopted business.

Thomas Wayne, Jr. is yet to actually be proven to be Bruce's lost/dead brother. So I won't actually go so far as to call it a lazy retcon, yet.

Good point. I'm still angry that they killed Damian Wayne off. Although, I hear he'll make his return next year.

This is a big switch, especially since Stark has never been more popular.
I think there are certain things you can't change about the big characters origins. Stark being a chip off the old block being one of them.
Many of the "A-listers" have issues with their father or their father's death was the catalyst for their turn:
Bruce Wayne
Peter Parker(Uncle Ben and his dad's vanishing)
Steve Rogers(dad was killed in WW1)
Kal-El (has 2,both died)
Scott Summers (orphaned,issues with Xavier)
Hal Jordan (watched father die in plane crash)
Bruce Banner (pretty sure he was abused as a child)
Making Tony adopted dilutes the Howard-Tony connection. This already feels like it will be ret-conned.

I haven't read very much of this, but I do enjoy The Superior Foes of Spiderman a lot.

Like others have said, that's if he's even Wayne's brother anyway. Even if he is, it's still not as bad as changing Starks' parents. That would be like say Thomas and Martha aren't really Batman's parents.
