I'm flying my dad down from Washington state at the end of the year. He's 65 and not in the best of health, diabetes has done a number on him.

I want to take him fishing for what may be the last fishing trip he ever goes on.

I'm looking for advice on what guide service to use (the guide will have to be patient and have the ability to handle a somewhat elderly and infirmed person). Also, what areas will be good spots that time of year?

Any advice would be appreciated, I want this to be a good experience for both of us.

If my dad was in that bad of shape there's now way in hell I'm putting him in a fishing boat. That's just asking to much of him and whatever guide you choose.

I can be absolutely no help to you but I wish yall the best.
My dad is 67 and it really sucks seeing him get older. I do a good job of ignoring it but its becoming more and more obvious.

MJ2 needs to slow his roll. Where are you? Lots of options for a good trip that time if year.

The Dularge area promises volume. And you can get a good trip with all the amenities.

Sorry to hear about your pop.

I said nothing wrong. Able bodied men get done with an inshore saltwater fishing trip feeling like they just went three rounds in an MMA fight and you don't think that subjecting his diabetic, elderly father to that would put him in an unsafe situation

He may able to handle an inshore trip but offshore will likely be too much for him

Good for you. I think places out of Shell Beach would be pretty mild for good inshore fishing. Don't know any guides though. Isn't Pappys a marina there? You could call them they might be able to point you I right direction. Explain what your doing. Best of luck!

Some of us finish fishing by 10:00 am. I'm thinking that's the kind of trip the OP is looking for. Not bouncing around Lake P for a sheepshead every 90 minutes.

Gerald ellender/ josh ellender out of dularge. 10 minute boat ride in the winter to their fishing holes and very good/ patient guides.

Check these folks out. Saltgrass Outdoors

The guy we fished with was a big ole boy, and one of the owners. I would imagine that he would be accommodating and sympathetic to your Dad's condition. Call them and ask to fish with Mr. Ray.

Seriously, great lodge and very nice people.

If you're not set on salt water, a guided white perch trip on Toledo Bend may be easier on him. If it's cold by that time, they really stack up and it can be nonstop action. Just another idea.

To the OP. Winter fishing is good all along the inside marshes. BUT, gnats are very very bad. This keeps me from going down now due to my health.

The poster above me has a better idea of fresh water fishing.

I recommend "Ought To Be Fishing Charters" out of Hopedale with Capt. Kerry Audibert. I've brought clients new to fishing and my kids. Capt Kerry is very nice, patient and helpful. And his boat is comfortable and spacious. Good luck.

Topwater Charters in Cocodrie. They will cater to you every need. You wont have to lift a finger. You're fed dinner, breakfast, lunch and they will clean and bag your fish when you get back. Marsh fishing with them in the Winter is the tits. You'll be fishing within 10 min of leaving the dock.
