Those who have a Lowrance HDS, do you have the Standard Map chips? How do you like it?

ETA: Which mapping system is best for Louisiana marshes? I'll mostly be fishing in Shell Beach, Hopedale, Lake Borgne, etc.

Since I just found out about the Standard Map chips, I really leaning toward Lowrance. I was leaning toward Hummingbird w/ a Navionics chip but this might be worth the downgrade in fishfinder.

I tend to like navionics better, it's pretty much google earth on your gps.

Not familiar with Standard maps.

Ive been considering a Furuno with Jepsson maps.

We need somebody in the know to step in and educate us

I dont wanta drop a bunch of cash and hate the maps...

Comparison on Navionics Gold, platinum, Standard, Jepsson???

I just bought a lowrance hds 5. The only reason I bought this over the garmin was for the maps. I talked to bob, I think, at bayou marine in chalmette and he was awesome. They have all the models with different maps on display for you to look at. Very friendly and his prices were the best I could find.

He basically said standard maps were superior to navionics bc they are updated more freq and if u fish the ever changing Louisiana coast it is very helpful.

Yeah but they only cover small areas for $80 per area whereas Navionics covers all of the US coast for $190

I have the HDS 8 insight USA on my boat but don't use a separate chip. Was thinking of buying the standard mapping chip at this past sportsman show but for $180 didn't think it was worth it. Even without it is Best GPS unit I have ever owned.
