Except for 3 of the 4 years prior to Manning when they were perfectly average.

They were irrelevant for basically every season in Indy except one before Manning
With Manning 11 playoff appearances, 2 conference championships and 1 SB win
Gtfo with this bullshite

Old fool Irsay will learn the hard way that you never talk shite about King Peyton.

I wasn't upset at all, but since TODD MF HELTON is, I guess I have to be.
Seriously, who gives a shite what Todd Helton says about football?

No they weren't. They were 8-8, 9-7, and 9-7 before they bottomed out in '97.
Yeah, Super Bowl worthy every year.

so much rustle. still trying to discern where irsay was wrong
Manning is a decent guy who works damn hard at his job. He has put up great stats, won a ton of games and won a damn SB.
It is a dick move even if true for Isray to say that. Fact.
Did he underachieve, sure in the playoffs, but he GOT them there. They would have been a worthless team without him.
He helped keep the seats full for a long time and helped Isray make piles of cash. Yes, he also got paid piles. I am sure Isray is a bit pissed paying Manning 19 million to sit on the bench his last year but he was INJURED making bank for Isray.
Dick move and I won't ever think it wasn't a dick move and I won't read anymore of this thread because it seems like it is cool to hate on all things Manning these days.

It came off as a complete shot at manning not winning enough Super Bowls. Even if Irsay didn't mean it to, that's the way it was taken.
You fell for the media spin hook line and sinker. I'd be willing to bet you heard about the backlash, the outrage of the comments way before you actually considered his actual quotes.
This is a media driven issue. And, the talking heads (like Helton, etc.) are simply responding to the outrage. They have already accepted the premise that Irsay was taking a shot at Manning...which is ridiculous.

quote:yep. and Steve Young fell for it too. He said that Jim Irsay made Andrew Luck's job harder by making these comments. Really? It's going to be harder because of something the owner said? Young must've taken too many hits to the head.

I did huh? Haven't had cable in a year so no ESPN/fox1/CBS/NBC spin has been seen with my eyes or ears.
I'm a adult and am able to read his comments and draw my own conclusions.

So Peyton=Matt Ryan?

The Colts would be playing in LA, if it weren't for Peyton Manning. He, and no one else, single handedly took them from being the laughing stock of the league, to one of the league's highest revenue franchises.

quote:meh, he had a great deal of talent around him. you throw Peyton Manning into the Oakland Raiders back in 1999, and they aren't anything close to resembling the Colts today. Yeah, Peyton had a HUGE part in the Colts' success. But, he was also in a great situation: Extremely consistent Offensive Line, great WRs, extremely good RBs. He even got a really good defense to go along with that a few years.
He, and no one else, single handedly

That's exactly why the very first year he didn't play, they became the worst team in the league. He wasn't surrounded by scrubs, but he made them appear better than they were.
The Colts definitely put a few talented defenses together, can't argue that.

Lord help anyone offer the least critique to Peyton manning - off with their heads.

If he did all this single handedly, then the blame sits sqaurely on his shoulders for playoff failures. You just e validated Irsay's comments in your attempt to crap on them.
