on your day off (Saturday) to go watch the Tigers play in Tiger Stadium?

How many hours do you carve out to go to a game?

I am mainly asking those of you who live in Baton Rouge (surrounding area) or New Orleans area who are season ticket holders... People traveling from out of state have made a big sacrifice in time and money and are committed to attending no matter what. Excessive standstill traffic will not stop them.

The way I see it, Time (which is also energy) is the reason we are seeing people not show up and/ or are leaving games early. It's to beat the excessive traffic, no question.

Traffic and parking are taking away the from the LSU game day experience. People have lives and other commitments... At the end of the day, Tiger Football is entertainment. ( I know I just sinned didn't I? LOL )

Time is our most precious gift in life.. No one likes wasting it by sitting in traffic-, pondering if they need to find a bush in the next 20 minutes.

Back to my question:

What is a reasonable Number of hours to leave your house, drive and park, tailgate for a bit, and get into your seat before kick off? (for locals)...and number of hours to get back to your driveway? I am guessing it's basically an all day affair. Are you ok with this?

How many hours does it require now, and how many hours do feel it should be?

Not all LSU fans necessarily are motivated to tailgate for 5 hours before the game.

For locals what is your typical game day itinerary ? Do you have time to cut your lawn? Run some errands for the wife? Watch your son's 10 am ball game?

I think LSU officials need to find ways to shorten the in and out of Tiger Stadium for fans. It steals the joy to go or stay until the end.

Americans are working harder than we ever have... We're tired., we need our weekends to recharge the batteries...

LSU football is a glorious escape from the real world... but it doesn't feel like an escape if traffic is a burden.

I am a student and as long as I have somewhere to tailgate and people to go to the game with and it's not 95+ degrees or raining outside I'll give up my whole day.

I usually can wake up around 8 and shower and get ready. Go drop my car off in the hay lot then go to a house\apartment for a couple hours and drink and watch college gameday then have someone drop me off at the tailgate and then go to the game.

It's about a 16-18 hour day for me, regardless. I drive three hours each way.

It's quite simple, really.

If want to go, then go.

If you don't want to go, then don't.

Everybody knows how long it takes to go to a game, so this whole thread is silly.

Everyone knows that traffic will suck, so those that continually bitch and moan about it are either the type of people that have to complain about everything all the time, or just simple minded. I mean, you have 100,000+ people in a small space leaving at roughly the same time - did you think that was going to be a quick exit? Really?

Bro, it's not silly.. Other stadiums with 100k don't have 2 mile walks after sitting in stand still traffic for 2 hours, 3 hours before kick off

LSU has a problem and it needs to be fixed

If I was 40 years old and lived a few hours away form BR I would probably save the money from multiple years of season tickets and just make a badass outdoor kitchen setup with a big tv and patio and just have people over every game and watch it there.

Does that make me a shitty fan? I don't think so, but hey. THat's just me.

Yeah LSU just isn't good with all the traffic. I've been to Jerry World the past 3 games LSU was there (Texas A&M, Oregon, and TCU).

That stadium holds 100k+ and I never really have problems getting stuck in traffic after games there.. Obviously they have much better roads than us though

How many other NCAA games do you attend each year?

Basically I devote the whole day to tailgating and the game on football weekends.

I will say the logistics are a lot more complicated now. When I was a youngin, our itinerary usually included a meal at a BR restaurant, and if my mom was with us, maybe a spin by the mall. And we'd still get to campus in time for the festivities. As recently as the early Saban era, you could arrive by 6-ish for a 7 PM game and usually find a reasonable parking spot if you knew where to look.

Now, you'd better be there hours ahead of time, even with a parking pass (which does not guarantee you a spot in the reserved lot if you arrive late, as I found out for a Florida game several years ago.)

LSU fans are overrated, entitled, and lazy. But the process of just getting to the game is pretty daunting sometimes.

Are you suggesting that LSU fans are indeed spoiled?

LSU fans are as passionate as they come.

I truly believe the energy and time to go a game on a regular basis is beyond reasonable . The traffic is stupid bad.

it's a problem LSU can improve on ,no question it just has to become a priority.

Traffic on Game day was horrible for almost all of southern Baton Rouge back in the early 80's.
I really can't judge if it's better or worse, but I'm not shocked it is still horrible. My guess would be that it's worse now.
I would consider the LSU game to be an all day deal. I'd be out there waaaaay early and not think about leaving the stadium until 15-30 mintes after the game was over. I wouldn't even plan on trying to drive away for at least 90 minutes after the game was over. I'd rather chill than stress over it.
I don't get the angst over no shows or early departures. 1) day time starts are often real damn hot 2) the real Tiger game experience is a night game 3) people suck.
Currently, I live about 12 hours away from the stadium and I may very well NEVER see another game in Tiger Stadium. I still LOVE this era of Tiger Football.

the capacity of stadium didn't change, so why do think this has changed so much?

A lot depends on where you're parked relative to the flow of traffic. There are lots where it's really easy to get away from campus if you want to go in one direction, but you'll sit there for an hour if you want to go in the other direction.

Grow up, stay home, place less importance on your college days. You have more important things to do than go to college football games. My condom and I will cheer extra loud.

I figure it's an all day affair. Maybe spend the night so I don't have to waste time in traffic. Actually, I would not sit in traffic for that long.

I recently gave up 4 days of my uber-busy schedule to geaux to an LSU game and a Saints game. One day of travel each way and one day devoted to each venue.

A lot more people on campus who don't go to the game. I've harped on it elsewhere, and people don't want to hear it, but it's a factor. Maybe not the whole enchilada, but a factor.

I'm a young professional and since we only get 7-9 home games a year I give up my entire Saturday when we have home games. I usually get to the tailgate between 8-10 am and go home once the game is finished.
