I missed the game this weekend. Obviously a 17-6 win would indicate a huge improvement on defense. Are we that much better or is the UF offense just that bad?

Well I haven't been to an LSU home game since about 2006 so it's pretty safe to say that I wasn't in the stadium. Didn't see it on TV either.

I was at a music festival in Austin with a lovely red head. Football was the last thing I was worried about that day sir.

The defense is improving and will continue to do so. It won't be elite this year but Chavis will have it continually improving.

LSU gave up more yards and points to TCU, UAB and Kent State. UF's offense isn't very good, but it's better than those teams.

Tackling was better and we got pressure on the QB. That's an improvement, but I'm not sold that we completely turned the corner. Limit Ole Miss' offense and I'll be happy heading into the Bama game.

They've definitely shown Improvement, but MSU and Fla aren't very good offensive teams. The OM game should tell us a bit more.

no they haven't turned a corner. they played a bad defense at home and also ran the ball effectively to keep the opposing offense off the field a lot. they will be marginally better the rest of the year but Bama and A/M will put up 35=45 pts.

Florida had the ball for 35 plus minutes just under their average of 37. They ran like 15 more plays than LSU.

At least if you are going to give an expert opinion, I'd suggest getting your facts straight. UF had the ball nearly 10 minutes more than LSU.

Time of possession:
UF - 34:11
LSU 25:49

On top of that , UF had nearly 30 minutes of possession in the first 3 quarters.

As for the overall improvement, there was a lot less confusion, more effective tackling and aggression to the ball (although Kown Alexander torpedoed himself blindly missing tackles a few times).

The DEs and DTs got pressure, and the blitzes were better called and disguised. Most importantly, it seems LSU is getting the best players on the field at DB and DL and putting them in positions to succeed.

LBer is still a complete mess, but as long as Welter is in at MLB that will be the case.

Yes. The line was in the QB's face almost as fast as the ball was in his hands half the time. Coverages were not getting blown, not that it mattered because the QB didn't have time to do much anyway.

We looked like a much improved defense. Six quarters now, nine points against us. IF that's not better than we were early this year I don't know what is.

Don't underestimate how bad florida's offense is. Im hopeful but not confident in our Defense yet.

I don't think we truly know.

The 2nd half at MSU was just as much a product of poor offensive execution by State as it was improvement by LSU's D. Against UF the defense did look improved, but how much of that was a byproduct of UF's dredful offensive execution and game plan is the unknown. We should find out a bit more this weekend. If LSU keeps OM to somewhere between 17-20 points, then I think you can say that they are starting to turn the corner a bit.

I think this is closest to the truth. And that our defensive performance versus Ole Miss will say a lot.

But I have a slightly different question: Is it possible for LSU to not only play good defense, but to also play strong offense in the same game? In other words, a high-scoring LSU because of an offense that will not be denied, and a low-scoring Ole Miss because of a dominating defense? All in one game?

Im gonna go out on a limb here (I almost never make predictions) and say LSU will certainly hold OM under 20. That's how much I truly believe the defense has gotten better. If I am wrong, I will certainly be here to own it.
