The only gripe you have is Wilfork. Who are the others? They have 3 defensive players on IR, one of which was a starter, one is a rookie, the other is Adrien Wilson who may not have played much at all. They have Vereen designated to return.

They lost both starting DT's fairly recently, one just this week. During the season they can't find the bodies appropriate to fill in well enough. Gronk was slated to return by now, so they didn't go out and sign suitable replacements either, just for Hernandez. The argument is contingent on none of Vilma, Harper, Smith being starters though, so in the end it is a moot point really. Just saying the Saints and Pats have both been hit hard by the injury bug.

I think they lost some sizable pieces, but to think this is a defense that went in as a top 5 points allowed defense as "missing pieces" is definitely over-exaggerating. they are still strong defensively with or without 2 start DTs.
Yes we ran it on them, but that doesn't take away the fact as a collective unit they're above average.
Their offense got hit by the injury bug and all, but you have to admit a lot of calls went their way on sunday.
I think I saw 3-4 drives in a row where we got pressure or a sack on brady on first down or tackle for losses on first down, to only give them a modest gain of 5-10 yards on the next play, and giving them a 3rd and long or a 3rd and 7. Then deja vu comes along and they catch the ball, we dislodge it and its called unnecessary roughness or brady misses his target and we get called for some random bs. Flip it back to our offense, neutral zone infraction to the world, but to ref's eyes its false start.
The defense did VERY well against the patriots, until the refs decided to keep them on the field forever or made our offense get off the field. Conditioning is one thing, I believe they have it, but being laid out to dry by the ref is COMPLETELY different

Now, despite the fact that the Pats had no defense, no Gronk, etc., the Pats still won a close game.
They still had several weapons and most important was Tom Brady. They also ran a hurry up offense which seems to be this defense's and most defense's kryptonite. In the first half it killed the Saints, and on the last drive it did too.
Overall, this team showed long flashes of great play on both sides of the ball, and it just was poor playcalling that did them in at the end along with horrible clock management.

Smith, Vilma, Bunkley, Ingram, Harper, and possibly Robinson, were all replaced by better players. I don't root for injuries, but this team actually caught a huge break with those guys getting hurt.
You can't compare that to the Pats losing their most important defender(Wilfork), who the entire defense was built around. Mayo also got hurt in that game. Talib has been playing like the best cb in football this year, and had to leave the game. Those three players are all better and more important than anyone injured on the Saints.
ETA; I didn't even point out not having Gronk and Hernandez. Again, not one of those Saints players is better than any of these guys the Pats didn't have going in or got hurt during the Saints game.

Let's not throw a hissy fit and try to scatch eyes like little girls just because somebody says that the Saints suffered a bad loss, and need to avoid that in the future.
PS I have no idea why you mentioned a team that didn't play last Sunday. You must be hallucinating and thinking that you are manly and funny -- both delusions, I assure you.

Vilma and Smith were slated to start. Fact.
The D is doing good without them. Fact.
The D is better without them. Opinion. Fact is, we don't really know. We think, but we don't. Fact is they were starters. Yes, Wilfork is a bigger loss than either, and probably both. But, its two defensive starters vs one.
Harper is a different story. This D was playing great with him there. Is Bush better? Don't know. So, 3 starters from Sunday vs One.
Shanle? frick dude, he isn't even on the roster.
To the Gronk/Hernandez point. Both of these guys were out long before the season started. I have no sympathy for the Hernandez loss.
I compared Gronk to Butler because both teams had a chance to make up for these losses. We have no idea how important Butler was going to be for the D, but its safe to say that he was a pretty big loss at the time. 20/20 vision allows you to say, "yeah, we're fine", but we all panicked whenever his injury was announced.
Fact is, both teams were pretty beat up going into the game. Saying one was more injured than the other is pure stupidity.
