My personal favorite:

It might be low on plot and acting chops (neither were ever important in Italian horror) but it is a gothic horror masterpiece that is filled with lush colors, gorgeous set design, and atmospheric music. I absolutely adore this movie. It is on Netflix Instant, I believe.

If you are into Silent era movies then, I highly recommend Nosferatu and/or Faust. Both were directed by FW Murnau.

House of the Devil.

It's from 2009 but a fantastic throwback to old school horror movies where just music and setting can be scary as frick.
