Spin off from another thread.......

Am I in the minority on this, or do a lot of people remember DiNardo for the good times, and not the bad.

When I think about his guy, I remember the 97 FL game, beating Auburn in like a 14 - 6 (some low scoring close game), and other good things about him before I think about his defensive hires, and how many close games we lost his last two years.

I think he's still kind of beloved by most fans, especially considering that we typically don't think too fondly of coaches that leave on the heels of 3 and 4 win seasons.

Do you still "kinda like" the guy, or do you remember the bad stuff/crappy defenses.

If you do like him, why?

He showed us the potential? Brought in good recruits? Deep down, I think that the folks that like him feel that way because he was a good fit for south Louisiana. Just my two cents.

Good. I always have a soft spot for Dinardo, I see his as the springboard to our current success.

I think a majority feel this way. Sometimes, I get the feeling there are folks that would take him over Miles right now, even considering all that Miles has accomplished.

I joined the original Gridiron Club he started and loved having lumnch with him weekly. I watched him slowly degrade into an "Us against the World" mentality that led to his ruin.

I'll always remember him as the guy who started LSU on its way back to national prominence, which led to Saban bringing LSU to the top, and then Miles keeping LSU there for going on close to 10 years

he turned things around, but then got derailed when he hired Lou Tepper as DC. Disaster.

But overall, good memories of him.

Overall I like Dinardo. He set the table for the resurgence of the early 2000's. In many respects, he is responsible for getting people interested in LSU football again with his bring back the magic campaign. He got LSU into some bowl games after they had been missing for years.

Lou Tepper was ultimately his downfall. Lou Tepper got his reputation on the backs of Kevin Hardy and Simeon Rice at Illinois. His linebacking philosophy works with those monsters at LB. With Thomas Dunson at LB, not so much.

He would not fire Lou Tepper, had he done so he would have had a job for at least one more year. It all worked out for LSU in the end so I certainly don't harbor ill-will towards him.

Lou Tepper, different story. What a joke.

an important part of where we're at now. Say what you want, but his players were the foundation of Saban's first SEC win, a season that helped us really build the fence around La.

He would never have achieved a high level of sucess here, but still an important figure in modern LSU football IMO.

Laid the groundwork for what Saban did. Loyalty in the end, did him in.

He may still be here had he not become a micromanager who made very, very bad coordinator hires.

Miles and Dinardo are not much different and they did coach together at Colorado. They both love the run game but Miles has been a lot better at managing the program and hiring assistants and coordinators and sometimes that can be the toughest part of being a head coach.
