I am having a serious issue getting a 2 stroke generator started. I got it started and ran it for about three minutes to test it. Then everytime I have tried to start it again I am encountering a problem with the pullcord. It gets about a foot of the way out and then violently jerks back into the spool, I mean to the point where it rips the thing out of my hands and leaves me literally bleeding.

I have the machine turned on, the choke correctly placed and I put in the right mixture of oil and gas. Any ideas what the problem is?

eta:

I can pull it out slowly, with serious effort at each "turn" but when I try to pull it fast the above happens.

Same thing was happening to me the other day. Forgot to put the plug all of the way in and I guess it couldn't compress liquid gas with no spark

So, check the spark

First, pull the plug out and let it sit for a bit. Try it again.

Fuel was squirting out of my exhaust. I felt like a tard when I realized I didn't clip the plug wire all of the way in. Damn thing started second pull

Been up working Calculus problems too long. I have a test Monday and am gonna be busy the whole weekend, so I am trying to get it done today and tomorrow.

Pull the spark plug and see if it is wet with fuel it might be flooding and hydro locking.

Or the woodruff key like MJ
said.
