The Desolation of Smaug 2

Other than the terrible CGI elves jumping through the trees, it looks pretty badass. God I hope they get this one right!

Hate that they added that. Peter Jackson apparently needs to actually read the books. Because he's gotten ridiculous with the stuff he's thrown in. I understand it's Hollywood and you want to love story it up, but you have completely lost the freeness of speech to say that these movies are true to the books now. I didn't think I could ever be mad about Freckles being in a movie but Peter Jackson has made that happen.

There was another thread about the release of the new trailer. FYI, if you want to read some more comments. Also a thread about me being bitter.

I probably would have added it. The thing is these movies are a sausage fest, and there was only one female even seen in the last movie. You'd naturally add Legolas to the Hobbit, since it makes sense that he would have been present for the Battle of Five Armies. Legolas even in the book was a pretty hollow character, so I don't really care that they're giving him a love interest.

Damn I didn't find the earlier thread when I searched. But I think I've learned to accept the fact that no matter what, Hollywood will always add in what they feel will be more appealing to the intended audience. They figure not everyone will be hardcore book readers, so the extra love interests are for the young peeps to have something to giggle about.

I didn't mind some of the added stuff in the first Hobbit, but I was really disappointed in the over use of CGI when it wasn't needed. For example, the Great Goblin was laughable of how silly he looked and talked. Nothing wrong with putting a big guy in a body suit with some makeup. It sure worked for the LOTR trilogy.

I'd agree with that. And what landshark said about the first being a sausage fest.

The first Hobbit was proclaimed as the most true to form movie to book as any of them. That can be thrown out the window and now the most untrue (proper sentence wording?) to form. Not true is maybe the way to say it? ANYWAY. Jackson got no support from the Tolkien family from the beginning of the LOTR. But he said he wanted to do all he could so that they would like it, and I think one son even came out and said he was fine with it. Again, he can't say that anymore.

I don't consider myself hardcore. But they are my favorite books of all time and I know the story/history of the books and Tolkien really well. So this movie kind of gets to me. That and the dragon looks terrible.

I don't think they've shown us Smaug really yet. That first trailer I think may have been an earlier version of Smaug that they put in just to thrill audiences. I think he's going to be different. Plus he seemed to have more of a black and bluish tint in the first film rather than red.

I'm saying that's a prototype they just put to trailer. Gollum for instance was supposed to be black, but then they came up with the start of "Return of the King" and turned him white.

Ok, I have been a fierce anti-hobbit force after the cartoonish crap {goblin mine & Radaghast} in the first movie but that trailer give me some morning wood!
