Watching the Curtis - St Aug game and ESPN commentators mentioned that this is a good year for Louisiana recruiting. Unfortunately Alabama and TAM are in the running for some if our state's best. Would a good Tulane football program help keep talent in state or hurt us?

Historically, ULM has competed with 'Bama. LSU doesn't need another powerhouse in the state. ;)

You guys don't think the downturn at Tennessee and Auburn helps Alabama? There is a contingent of New Orleanians that don't like LSU anyway. We don't play Tulane some so the pain - gain might be a wash.

tulane would not get the top prospects in the state guys, the best tulane would be compared to is probably a tcu or maybe eventually texas tech though they're a couple of years from it only if they continue to recruit 3 star prospects like some of the 2nd tier colleges like tech when they became prominent. they just need curtis johnson to get his coaches to recruit these 2nd tier prospects like some of the top instate three star prospects. give johnson a couple of years if they give him that. he has to recruit big interior lineman like miles does, and try to get some key athletes.

As far as I'm concerned - Tulane football is doing just fine.

1924, you obviously aren't paying attention. Tulane has turned the corner and may go bowling this year. They have gotten bigger, faster, and stronger all around. They can be a perennial 8-10 win team in their new weak conference.

If Tulane became a power, that would leave only ULL fans and North LA to root for Bama in LA...

TU will fill up their new stadium. The program has momentum however, LSU is just on another level. I see them getting more 2 and 3 star players that the big guys overlook that may develop. Hard to beat their education if that is why you go to college.....

Correction, LSU would benefit with Auburn being good. Or, at least competitive with Bama in recruiting state players. Auburn down typically means Bama up.

NOLA is not a LSU town and never has been, despite WWL and the TP's best efforts. The suburbs are, but NOLA is not.
See what would happen to anyone's attendance with the losing we've done.
Tulane doesn't affect LSU, except that a better Tulane could and probably would take an occasional 4/5 star out of NOLA that might have otherwise gone to LSU. The players LSU is losing are going out of state because a) they want to go out of state and b)Alabama is so good.
A weaker LSU would definitely hurt tulane, because then the big boys would be in here to recruit the top players and LSU would recruit a lot more of the high 3 stars that I hope we can eventually get.

So you're saying that we need yet another powerhouse to compete with in order to help LSU? That makes zero sense.

First off, Tulane is dead and will not return to any type of success on a national level. Once a decade they may get a 4 star kid to commit that LSU recruits.

Second, if we already have to compete against other top schools for talent, how does adding another in state school to compete with help us? Imagine if Auburn didn't exist and all the in state kids went to Bama instead. That's how we have it now. Why mess with that?
