This really puts it into perspective how ludicrous it is that Rodgers won the 2011 MVP over Drew.

"Brees eclipsed Marino's 27-year-old passing yardage record with a game to spare but did not win the 2011 MVP trophy. That honor went to Rodgers."

Bigger travesty is manning in 09. You swap Brees and Mannings stats, manning still wins.

Brees: Record for most yds in season while breaking his own record for passing pct.

Rodgers: solid year.

Rodgers had more touchdowns and a higher qbr. Brees is my favorite player of all time but let's not act like Rodgers just had a "solid year"

Rodgers was also 15-1 and didn't have any games like Drew did against the Rams. When it's that close, that matters. Also beat Brees head to head and played great in doing so. We also had a better running game. They were all Rodgers

It wasn't simply a solid year.

Rodgers: 45 td

Brees: 46 td

Rodgers was 14-1, Matt Flynn was 1-0. And Flynn set the record for most TDs in a game for a "storied" franchise

But Rodgers is the Most Valuable Player on that or any other team.

Well 14-1 certainly is better than 13-3 where you absolutely shite the bed in one for them.

The award isn't "Best player on the team with the best record." It's most valuable player to a team in the NFL.

OK fine.

The saints had the 6th best running game in the nfl, the Packers had the 27th.

The saints had the 24th best defense, the Packers dead last at 32.

The Packers won 2 more games and beat the saints head to head. Who was the more valuable player?

I was actually looking at the stats earlier today. You can see the argument for the 2011 because Rodgers did have a lot less interceptions and therefore a higher qb rating.

But in 2009 Manning did not have in any way at all a better year than Brees. Brees had a 10 point higher qb rating. Manning won entirely because of his name and history. It is total bull shite.

Absolutely... 09 was a screw job, 11 was not.

Yeah it was bullshite but ending the season with 3 losses really hurt his case. I agree he probably should have won though.

True but it doesn't take much thought to see that one of those losses was just a give away because we didn't have anything left to play for.

ETA: I think that Brees only got one MVP vote that year too. Even worse. Manning was voted in a landslide.

He definitely had more than just a solid year, but there were people saying they never thought Marino's record would be broken. 2 QB's broke it that year, and Brees has broken it alone twice (or three times). It might be the homer in me, but I genuinely believe that Brees deserved it that year.

3 losses

This should not be a factor if a team has been dominate the entire year. Besides one loss, what's the difference between 14-2 and 13-3? Answer: nothing. Proof: Where's the Lombardi trophy?
