He's one of the all-time favorite LSU players.

Here's his namesake, Little Dalton Hilliard:

Reading these posts brings back great memories of that magical year. 82 was one our best teams ever. Still don't know how that team lost to Miss St. And Tulane

It's also one of the reasons that, to this day, I want to stomp a mud hole in Nebraska. That Orange Bowl was brutal to lose.

Not sure if there is video available for it, but Eric Martin made one of the greatest catches of all time in that game running a deep crossing route where either his cleat had come off earlier in the route or just and he stretched out for the ball...but he was laid out horizontally without a shoe as he made the catch.

The screen pass against Florida is my single favorite offensive play in LSU history.
Definitely one of the most iconic plays of all in my LSU fan history. That run was a thing of beauty, loved the way he skipped into the endzone. He was definitely fun to watch!

I know the game was shown on ESPN Classic, 'cause I taped it way back when. So, it should be out there somewhere. Very tough game to lose, no doubt about it.

I was at all of those home games that season. The FSU game was sweet not just for the Orange Bowl, but also because Bowden had just begun to turn that program around the few years before and they were damn good. And I hated FSU.

LSU was just being LSU against MSU that year. I was beyond depressed after that loss. Then after that huge win in the fog - to lay down to Tulane the following week was ridiculous. People said that it was a letdown perfect storm b/c we already had the Orange Bowl bid. But we had lost to Tulane the YEAR BEFORE! Those guys should have gotten destroyed.

Still, Thunder and Lightning were amazing to watch. Gary James would run the sweep at the goal line and people would start screaming right when he got the ball b/c no one back in those days had that speed at LB or CB to catch him.

And I'll say it - when Barry Sanders came on the scene, I remember telling my dad "he runs like Hilliard."

Many here are too young to remember Dalton as an LSU player, but that guy was phenomenal. No LSU running back since, maybe excluding Kevin Faulk, has ever been as good.

Hilliard is still the most exciting player I've ever seen in P & G. maybe ever will be.

He wasn't the fastest back, but it didn't matter. He was extraordinarily quick and had such dynamic moves as to make open field speed almost irrelevant. No LSU back since has had moves like Dalton.

My senior year at acadiana high we had a three team spring scrimage with franklin and patterson. Patterson was only double AA franklin and us were 4A. We had heard about Dalton I played corner back they ran a pitch my way I thought I was tough, broke down on Dalton he stutter step right then left then right when I realized he had ran right over me an gone in in for 6. He had 2carries for 2 touch downs one left one right then they took him out. Very embarrassing.

Does anyone remember Ivory Hilliard in the 90's? Best athlete in the Hilliard fam. But was a hot headed trash talker who hated the coaches. I guess at that time I don't blame him.

This. I've said for years (decades now) that this was the best catch I've ever seen made by anyone. Completely horizontal, 12" off the ground, caught the ball with one hand outstretched.

Jarvis' one-hander last year ranks second, but distantly.

FYI, a fun fact. I remember it being reported that Dalton had 32" thighs. I found it amazing at the time that his thighs were as big as my waist.

That was a LONG time ago!

It's kind of a cheap, abbreviated version of the play, but I think this is what you might be looking for:

Dalton was the most fun to watch of all LSU running backs...I've been in Tiger Stadium since 1957.

He was good but what many people of Patterson believe is Curtis Hilliard is said to be the best athlete in the Hilliard family. Circumstances prevented him from going further. Crazy since we know the beast that Dalton was in school and the pros.

Ike's track record is better than Ivory.

i was a HS kid bagging groceries when I moved to BR in June 1985. Dalton came in one time in those short shorts people wore back then for jogging and such. His thighs were freakish. I tried not to stare while bagging his groceries.

I remember this game like it was yesterday. Great performance on the road. This game propelled the TIGERS to a great season. The FSU game was unreal, well Until REGGIE REGINELLI came along. Still a great year. BTW I was in the stadium when Dalton broke Sir Charles carreer rushing mark. Always been a Dalton Fan.

Dalton was the embodiment of "running downhill." He immediately seemed to have a head of steam. Defenders instantly seemed to be clutching at him from behind. It looked effortless. Even with so many great Tigers to choose from, he could be my favorite.

Jerry Butler went on to Southeastern. Not sure if he played long. From my sophomore year in high school until I graduated I followed the state stats in the Baton Rouge State Times. I remember Butler and Hilliard both had 1000 yard seasons in '79. I can't remember if Butler graduated in 80 or 81.

I'm from Morgan City (a suburb of Patterson) and was on the radio there in the mornings. Nobody has said how nice of a guy Dalton is. Easy to root for!

From Patterson to LSU to the Saints.. I've never rooted for anybody as hard as Dalton MF'n Hilliard!

He was the Chris Jackson of RB's!

Little known fact: WHO DAT!? Came from Patterson High. Was "Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Jacks" (Lumberjacks)

When Dalton went to LSU, the Patterson fans changed "Jacks" to "Tigers", then "Saints"

I really wish some of you lazy fricks with Dalton Hillard VCR tapes rotting away somewhere, would digitize them. You know who you are!
