As much as aTm hates to admit it, they will be the second school in the state behind Texas. Always! They lucked up with Manzel, but I'm not sure they can sustain that type of recruiting and winning. Then where is he left? He's basically in the South Carolina of the SEC West.

I think you're underestimating the value of the SEC to A&M. I think it's a differentiator between them and Texas and it creates more of FSU/UF instead of the Alabama/Auburn. Also, a lot of people forget the 90s where A&M was the it team in Texas.

I seriously doubt he'd leave A&M for USC! Possibly but highly unlikely!

USC alumni want tough football back in the mix

Sumlin / Defense / toughness do not mix

No JFF,= 8-4 program

And I bet Texas still had better resources and got better recruits.

Sumlin would take the SC gig in a New York Second unless the NFL comes calling with an open check book. Its one of the Top 5 jobs in college football, many times its been the gig. Its set up to become that right now. The only coaches that would not be interested and would actually receive an offer from them coach at Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan and Texas historically.

A&M is no threat to LA guys we want whether he is there or not. If he isnt there though, we could make even bigger inroads into Texas than we already have, since he has taken over TX recruiting for most part from UT, but we still get some slice of the pie they want too.

lol at you comparing Sumlin and A&M to Bama and Saban. If offered, Sumlin goes faster than Lane left Rocky Top. Saban has his own statue, tons of 'ships, the new football stadium and every road not named MLK in Bama named after him. Sumlin has JFF. That's it. Sumlin knows, in the long run, he can't out recruit the Longhorns. USC can out recruit any school in California. The toughest school he would have to out recruit is Oregon. Really, besides Oregon and USC, who else is there out west? And Oregon is a johnny come lately but I have a feeling they will be the cream of that conference for years to come. Matter of fact let's drop missouri, ship Awburn to the east and ggrab Oregon for ourselves they don't belong there anyway. They get some of their best recruits from down here anyway.

Sumlin would leave now if offered, IMHO. Texas is about to get a new coach as well, and we have to assume they'll make a BIG splash and start to recruit HARD. I dont think aTm can keep up to be honest.

And on a national stage, USC is Coaching royalty.

I don't think it'd be out of the realm of possibility to think it would give Noil and Willis the push to get out of Louisiana.

how so?

I think USC is a great job normally but I'm not sure about right now. The bigger is probably that Sumlin supposedly has been more interested in going to the NFL than ultimately staying in college.

And USC will still have limitations for the next year or two... and Sumlin will have to build recruiting relationships in California. The advantage he had in moving to A&M was he already knew the recruiting grounds in Texas. California is a different set of relationships.

USC is not as good a job as many like to proclaim it is. It's a great location and recruiting is easy, and they've certainly got some history, but it's not a great college football job.

There's a reason they always have to settle for #8 on their coaching hire list.... because very few people want the job. Even Carroll was a dud hire, although it ended up working out great.

Sumlin to USC? Yeah, Sumlin's gonna leave the excitement, passion, exposure, and money of the epicenter of college football for the West Coast and a dead-end USC job that has fallen off of college football's radar? Not gonna happen. Sumlin's got A&M poised to compete for the SEC title the next few years and then he'll be able to choose whatever NFL job he wants if he decides he's ready.
