Was Landry down when the top of his helmet touched the ground?

So when he turned 360, rolled off of that pile and kept on going, nothing but feet, a hand, and his helmet touched the ground. He was protesting that he wasn't down...I was thinking that it IS review-able if you challenge the spot.

Do the rules state that any part of the body besides hands and feet touching the ground means you're down, so he was down where his helmet touched? Because if they do, they need to change it to allow helmets...I don't think they even considered it to be possible...how many times will you EVER see someone's freaking HELMET touch the ground, but they keep their balance and keep on running? It was pretty spectacular...

hands and feet.

if you watched, his elbow also touched, which makes him down.

His elbow and forearm were also down.

PS The whistles blew anyway, so even if he wasnt down we could not have gotten any relief because of the whistle (I think)

This. The boos from the stadium were not cool. It was obvious on TV. I hope they just didn't show the right angle in TS

made less spectacular bc his elbow hit the ground and helped him keep his balance.

OK, thanks, I didn't catch that, it was noisy...

So, if the elbow would Not have touched...can your helmet?

Not sure about a helmet only... I think the rules states "anything other than your hands or feet" so I guess it would be down. However, Im admittedly talking straight from my a-hole.

That's a shame b/c I thought he made an insane play and got robbed. I can never see shite on the TS replays

This. Maybe if there weren't so many ads on the scoreboard/screen ...

Rule 4 states that "a live ball becomes dead and an official shall sound his whistle or declare it dead when any part of the ball carrier’s body, except his hand or foot, touches the ground".

So yes, he was down when his head touched.

Even if his elbow was not touching, his helmet was, and he should have been down there.

Think about it, a player with his head in that precarious a position SHOULD be considered down - you don't want defenders smashing into him and driving his head further into the turf.

what if it were the back of his hand, like when a player is holding the ball and that hand touches down? I thought that is also a dead ball at that point, but might be wrong.

My understanding is the "hand" is defined as everything above the wrist, so the back of the hand would not be down. Once a part of the forearm touches the ground the carrier is down.

We were still pissed about the holding call on Landry's touchdown catch and run...

And we don't have the benefit of a closeup replay(due to 70% of screen covered in ads and crappy camera angles) as tv viewers have.

Landry was right in front of me and it damn sure looked like nothing hit the ground.

Why is it that all of a sudden people who are not in the stadium have become so concerned about the behavior of those who are?

This +1000000 is what happened. Holding call was just terrible. Had him between the pads the whole time....
