There are injuries every week in the NFL, and sometimes the broken bones and torn ligaments become a blur.

But Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson had one that’s hard to forget. According to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic, Johnson lost the top of his left middle finger during yesterday’s loss to the Saints.

And put your breakfast down for a second, because the injury was discovered when he took off his glove — and the finger was still in it. Johnson had surgery last night, and because the bone was exposed, there’s a concern about infection.

Heard them talking about this on Mike and Mike.

Greeny wondered if he now gets a 10% discount on manicures.

A buddy of mine was calf roping in high school and his finger got caught between the rope and the saddle on his horse. He didn't think much of it until he pulled his glove off and his finger fell out of the glove

Doctors had to shave down the bone to his first knuckle. Johnson's status for Week 4 is unclear as the team watches for an infection.

Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson suffered a gruesome injury in his team's defeat to the Saints on Sunday, as he lost part of his middle finger, according to the Arizona Republic.

At this point, it's unclear exactly what happened to Johnson's left finger -- Somers acknowledged later that the injured finger was on his left hand, not his right -- but the newspaper writes that the injury occurred on a punt return when Jones went to tackle Saints running back Darren Sproles.

Johnson had surgery Sunday, and since the bone was exposed, doctors are concerned about a possible infection. Doctors also shaved his finger down to the first knuckle of his finger.
