First time in the movies, I wasn't really that impressed. I'd gave it a "just ok" rating and chalked it up to that.

I found it at W-Mart for $5 today and decided to buy it (that $5 in my pocket was screaming to be spent).

Anyway I didn't have anything else to do this afternoon, so I plugged it into the old DVD player and watched it.

This time, I was very surprised, but I enjoyed it and thought it was for the most part, pretty faithful to the old Green Lantern comics from back in the day. And a good rendition for today.

Hal Jordan from the back in the day comics had a pretty good look-alike in this movie.

The guy who played Sinestro might as well have been peeled off the pages of the comics - he was that close to the real deal. BTW, at the very end, there was a scene showing Sinestro trying on the yellow ring. That is a sequel screaming to be made.

The Guardians were weird, but they were in the comics, too. So they played them well.

All in all, I thought all the characters were well-cast and did their jobs admirably.

So I re-rate this movie with a couple of stars (**) and say it is a better effort than I'd originally given it credit for. And definitely worth a second look.

Hoping for the Sinestro sequel...

This movie was terrible, although upon repeat viewings, it does appear as though there was some love and attention to detail put into it.

Still awful though.

That's what I kind of thought too. But I rewatched it and changed my mind.

I don't know - maybe it's because I grew up reading DC and Green Lantern comics. GL was always one of my favorite DC characters, and the movie did him justice.

I can see that if you didn't have that growing up reading GL comics experience, you might have thought the movie was a bit hokey...

Help me out, why was this movie so bad? Was it the presentation? Ryan Reynolds? Does the concept of Green Lantern just not translate well onto the big screen?

While I re-watched this movie today, I did so with this same question in mind. What I came away with is that this movie was not bad at all. In fact, for the GL fanbase, it was well-presented. But for those with no particular GL background, I'm not sure there was much understanding of the premise or the mythos behind it.

What I think I'm saying is this - unless you're a quick study, you probably had to read the comics first to "get" what was going on in the movie.

So for you a one star rating was "just ok"

What does Battlefield Earth rate?

See, I saw it in the theaters and liked it. It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either. That being said, I found myself really sympathizing with the group of people that found it to be awful.

I just think the concept of Green Lantern is hard for people that aren't fans of the comics to get. My wife, who generally likes comic book movies, didn't like this one. She had a hard time with the whole "will vs fear" thing.

It was a difficult movie to strike a balance between origin and action. A lot of people found it slow and boring. I really don't know how else you'd tell the story without spending some time on the GL Corps origins. Parallax was also a really hard villain for people to grasp.

it didn't know if it wanted to be gritty or fun.

turning a scary arse enemy into a cloud monster is never a good idea

writing was weak

CGI was too cartoony (space stuff mostly) for how serious things seemed to be

didn't follow its own logic regarding fear and will

It could have been really good but it seems like there were WAY too many people putting their own spin on things to make it cohesive.

While I like Reynolds, he was terribly cast as Hal Jordan.

Much of the CGI was just terrible.

Both villains were poorly executed.

Honestly...if felt much more like the poor attempt that was Spawn than a huge budget Warner/DC comic book franchise starter flick.

That being said, Mark Strong as Sinestro was really good.

Anyone who says this movie was bad is letting critics tell them how to feel about movies. It was bland though. It felt like a run of the mill superhero with a 90's outlook that was ported into modern times. It was a safe, solid movie.

sorry but I am not.

Usually I don't read reviews until I see a movie. Mostly I'll just check the audience score and glance at the RT score (and I have major issues with the way RT grades reviews so I don't exactly take a bunch of red as proof a flick sucks)

I just didn't like it. That's all there is to it.

Well for me, not liking and thinking a movie is horrible or bad are two different things. I didn't really like Zero Dark Thirty for a variety of reasons, but I don't think it was a bad/horrible movie either.

Well I thought GL was bad. I gave a brief outline of why.

I really just dont care enough to go in depth.

The most I can say about it is I didn't hate it enough to write a long review.

I'd never read Green Lantern before but found it easy to follow. I'm not sure why people dump on it. It's a movie about a comic book character and as far as that's concerned it's fine.

It wasn't as bold or as adventurous as TDK and I think a lot of the disdain comes from people not liking Ryan Reynolds (I thought he was pretty good as Hal).

The villains were fine for me. They weren't exceptional (Joker or Zod level), but they weren't horrible like some other movies (catwoman villain or superman returns Lex Luthor).

Mark Strong was spot on as Sinestro. Blake Lively was better than expected too.

So all of the most powerful lanterns couldn't stop the bad guy but the guy with no training or understanding of how to use his power can do it alone. Sure.

The movie was horrible. I would list the 302 plot holes from my original review but watching the movie was so traumatic my mind has blocked almost all memories of the event.

It was just a quick cash grab to make some money off the comic fad. It was pretty bad.
