re: New La. town coming hopefully -The City of St. George - updated

the saddest most depressing part of all this is that the EPRP School system will never be fixed. It just continues down the path of the Orleans Parish school system. Even the minorities(who can afford to) have abandoned it, except for those who get in to a Magnet school. The only way to fix is to abandon, which Zachary, Baker, Central and now St. George have done/are trying to do.

i believe they have only about 3000 sigs. Hopefully it picks up more as the word continues to spread. Remember this is only two weeks in. Not every adult over 50 has FB or other social media programs

This
quote:

With all the effort being put in this, you could just retake Baton Rouge. Why not fix a major state capital and build it for the future, rather than create a new city that may easily overshadow BR in terms of economy, thus creating a failed city. A failed city will only create more crime and suffering, and eventually come back into your new precious city.

And this
quote:

then why don't we all do as the founding fathers did and work our arse off at making it work. Instead this is just repeating the mistakes of our cowardly grandparents and greatgrandparents who ran from desegregation and gave us these problems.

Don't run from these frickers. Organize in a collective manner to vote the shite away. Motivate yourself to vote instead of to build a half arse wall. Garbage decision makers are there because we allow it. All this does is kick the same can down the road. Ever been to Jackson, MS? We're better than that.

Amen, Jackson is correct. That's all this accomplishes. But that is the road we are heading down. I have never seen a town that hates itself and each other as much as Baton Rouge. Everyone wants their neighbor to fail.

Once the core of the apple goes rotten, the rest is on borrowed time

If our founding fathers made it work wouldn't the east coast be apart of England still?

Instead our founding fathers broke off. They broke away from a bad system. Seems like these folks are doing something very similar.

Why not set up at lsu on gameday, have people show their license and let them sign it there. Yard signs at big intersections in south br will get the word spread.

do you not understand what they are doing? That area they are Incorporating is the Unincorporated part of BR. The area that pays BR taxes but doesnt get those taxes spend on themselves.

I understand, not disputing the mismanagement of Baton Rouge. Long term, I just think this is dooming both communities. St. George will have a nice 20 year run or so, and then rot away as soon as someone sees their kid attending school with too many black kids.

I just come from a different mindset. I prefer taking actions to gentrify the urban core. OT Ball them(the poor, send them to battle for turf in Livingston) out instead of fleeing

Caste system forming slowly but surely. I think the inertia of any society goes in that direction. I also think that what we view as an equal society not stratified by class is really just a kind of aberration of post WWII idealism and energy. (and to an extent the earlier expansion into the vast space that became the US). I think the old saying - "he who has the gold makes the rules" is pretty much accurate in the long haul. As society ages, wealth consolidates and classes form.

People have been trying for years to change BR, it isn't happening. Sign me up for a community that is anti "going Duffy"
