Whats everyone's top 5

1. Boogie Nights- maybe one of my favorite movies period
2. There Will Be Blood- Great movie, Intense, character driven
3. Magnolia- I had to watch it a couple of times but it grew on me
4. The Master- I think underrated by most on this board but I really enjoyed all of the performances
5. Punch Drunk Love- To this day, hands down the only movie I think Adam Sandler acted in, and he did a hell of a job.

I still have yet to see Hard Eight but I hear good things

All of his movies are good. No need for ranking. Punch Drunk is the weakest.

That's a brilliant film of simplicity and minimalism.

I'd rank them like this:

His best and most accessible film is Magnolia. His most well-rounded film is probably Boogie Nights.

I think the most powerful film he made is There Will Be Blood. The most sensitive - PDL.

All are above-average to great.

HA! We finally disagree, my not-quite doppleganger! PT Anderson films fail on one of the most basic levels -- he can't tell a coherent story.

Punch Drunk Love is a great movie. Boogie Nights is decent (actually, I'd call it uneven, great in the first half and then a complete mess in the second half). Other than that, I range from dislike to intense hatred of his other films.

To each his own. I have similar feeling about Tarrantino. I either fricking love one of his movies or I cant stand it

Case in point- Pulp Fiction F'N Love this movie Django Unchained- Wanted to ask for my money back
Reservoir Dogs- Loved it
Inglorious Bastards- Outside of Waltz, hated it

PDL is the best. PDL is my favorite movie.

I love all of his films though.

Great artist. Magnolia is the one that got me hooked. I saw the trailer with all the cast introducing themselves while sitting in a dentists chair and thought, "that looks interesting."

There Will be Blood is his masterpiece, IMO. It is his darkest and most powerful movie. Second, I would go with The Master (Phoenix deserved the Oscar). Third, Magnolia. Boogie Nights is probably my least favorite.

Well, that was kind of the point....

Boogie nights is my favorite

But it plays like it should have been an HBO series and not a movie

That story played out over 12 episodes would have been off the charts. Today it doesn't get made as a movie and it is probably a cable series

You can say the same about many other "great directors."
