So the big four are bge, primo, grill dome, and kamado joe.

Bge large
$850
daisy-wheel top included
No stainless hardware

Grill dome large
$829
daisy-wheel top not available
Includes stainless hardware

Kamado Joe large
$749
Daisy-wheel top included
Stainless hardware for $100 more

Primo oval large
$976
Daisy-wheel top included
Stainless hardware not available

I'm not listing prices with stands because I will be building a table.

Going with the assumption that they all cook the same, I really want a grill dome because they look great, I just can't get over the issues they've had with the exterior finish. Second would be Kamado Joe because I like the red one and the price; I can't find any negatives on it. Bge would be third because I hate how pretentious bge owners are but my head says I should go this route. Primo is out because of the price.

I should just dig a hole in the ground and build a fire because I will never be able to decide... FRICK!

As a non-pretentious multi BGE owner, I wouldn't worry about the stainless hardware. My egg sits under a carport, not covered by a drape, and I haven't had any issues with metal corrosion on the top, bands, hinges, etc. It can get wet in blowing rain, but the only thing that's rusted is the silly little grate lifter my dealer threw in for free. Some folks get hung up on the round BGE cooking surface, claiming its too small, but I usually go up (various grids and risers are available for dual level cooking).

All will give you similar performance, so don't sweat it too much. I'd pay attention to the various dealers--are they established, willing to provide service, and interested in your business?

only comment is if you want the Large save the trouble and get the XL because you are going to want it soon after your first cook.

listen to this man^^^

Past that...I have a BGE. Cant go wrong with any of the 4 you listed. I'd put Primo and BGE at the top of the list.

I just ordered an akorn

Just to see if I like the cooking method and I don't have a nice porch to keep it on so I may just upgrade down the road

Other than price, sell me in primo. Not sure I want/need something that big. I'm not a charcoal man going into this so I don't want to have to build a huge fire to fill this behemoth.

A huge fire is rarely needed. Ceramics are pretty efficient. You'll use a few handfuls of lump charcoal to get started and then add a few pieces along the way for long cooks.

I rarely even use the whole firebox on my Primo. I keep the firebox divider in and only use half 95% of the time. The only time I have been filling it up recently is to build a large fire for pizzas.

IMO the oval shape and split firebox makes the Primo much more versatile than all of the others. Besides that they are about equal.

The firebox divider allows you to cook on 1/2 the unit or coo indirectly. When you are done cooking, just close the vents and the fire extinguishes itself, save the rest of the charcoal for the next cook. Size only appears to be a problem or issue until you cook on one...

I have been having my XL for over a year and I have not used the entire firebox yet. I also find that the oval shape because of the straight sides offers more versatiltiy in positioning food.
