Expect these numbers to get better after playing the Buccaneers this weekend. Josh Freeman looked bad (as expected) and was even stripped of his team captain status...

I feel Rob Ryan smells the blood in the water and will go for the kill this weekend.

Of course, but the stat that truly counts the most is this one:

Least amount of Points allowed per Game: 7th

...and we're in the Top Ten!

Was hoping for around 20th for each of these. If this remains constant, we are in for a damn good season. Night and day, so far at least.

This is also a huge one. The defense actually being able to get off the field is refreshing.

I think the rush defense will be pretty stout all season. Outside of one long run, Jackson did jack shite. The d-line looks to be the real deal, and I am hoping they can stay healthy. That 7th round pick, Haralson, might be one of the better pick ups all season. He and Galette looked really good, and hopefully Martez will be able to contribute as well. Lastly, Vaccaro is sick nasty. I love how he is being used basically everywhere outside of the defensive line. He plays with a lot of intensity, and this defense desperately needed that.

Overall, very pleased and impressed so far with this defense. They get an A from me for their performance Sunday. This team just looks a lot more confident. This is going to be a special year.

no more talk of the worst defense in history. That's ancient history. It's a brand new year.

It's mind numbingly stupid how, in the falcons fans pregame analysis, called this defense the worst ever considering how rankings fluctuate every year.

Saints defensive ranking(by total yards):
2006: 11th
2007: 26th
2008: 23rd
2009: 25th
2010: 4th
2011: 24th
2012: 32nd
2013: 18th(so far)

The chances of a defensive ranking being the same as the previous season for any team is extremely minute.

What's also encouraging is that they'll facing be Tampa Bay's so-far lowly OFFENSE this Sunday:

Points per Game: 24th
Yards per Game: 29th
Yards per play: 26th
1st down conv: 31st
3rd down conv: 12th
4th down conv: N/A
Most Penalties made: 1st
Most Fumbles: 1st
Most Fumbles lost: 2nd
