from the end of the season. Will the "battle for the Boot" be retired?
Obviously the rivalry with the Hogs never caught on. Now that we have A&M coming on board and is a natural rival will the Boot be retired?

Time to melt the ol' boot. Turn it into a gold neckchain.

Jamarcus might want to wear it for a sideline interview

The Boot always struck me as a forced "tradition". It's a shitty, tacky, gaudy trophy that needs to be thrown over a bridge and forgotten.

What the hell are they going to do, make a TX/LA sheet of metal to fight over, I hope not.

It is simple. No. Trophy.
We have no rival.

I like the trophy and the rivalry. Arkansas was always a game I was afraid of every year.

LSU leads the series 36–20–2.

I think TAMU actually fits the bill as a traditional rival that goes back in time beyond the Ole Piss rivalry. LSU turned out more Army officers during the Second World War than any other school in the nation. (This includes West Point.) TAMU had a fine military tradition as well.
After the war, Gen. Troy Middleton (unfortunately, he was a Mississippi State grad') took over the reins at LSU and pushed the military tradition of "The Ole War Skule" very hard. During the late forties and early fifties, LSU's ROTC was the top unit in the Fourth Army District, and thus each member of the ROTC (this included ALL freshmen and sophomore men at the time, as well as juniors and seniors who plannd to make a career of the military) wore a Blue Star on their uniforms as the award bestowed upon the top ROTC unit in any given division.
TAMU, on the other hand, had the top Cavalry unit in the 4th Army District at the same time, and thus members of their Cavalry were authorized to wear silver spurs.
When the two football teams met on the field, Aggie students in uniform would attempt to steal the Blue Stars from the LSU ROTC students' uniforms, and the LSU ROTC was directed by their Corps Commander (highest ranking student cadet)to get every silver spur available at whatever cost!
It was a rivalry between the two greatest non-governmental military schools of the time, and it was a rivalry that frequently meant blood would be spilled somewhere, albeit non-life
threatening.
My own first game to observe in Death Valley was the thrashing we bestowed upon TAMU in 1986. I thought it was very fitting then to open a season against a historic rival.
In my own mind, I see a trophy being created for this rivalry. It should look like two artillery batteries aimed at each other on either bank of the Sabine River. I really think that TAMU should have been brought into the SEC during the first expansion, rather than South Carolina.
Y'all can disagree with me all you want, but you'll never change my mind that this will prove to be a true and worthy rivalry.

Do not want the rivalry but that was an exceptional post.
Well done.

I agree that the boot is part of a forced rivalry, that never really felt like a rivalry. However, I think the battle for the boot will continue.
I also agree that the games have been much more competitive than I expected over the past 7-8 years.
The boot is the stupidest and most dangerous trophy in all of sports, but there is no reason to remove it from that game every year.

I live in Arkansas now, and they believe that we actually care about the boot!!! And yes the creator of the boot is from here and he said on radio that the trophy will live on

I Remember reading a story a few years back about the players just leaving that heavy thing on the field and walking off. I think another year it got lost altogether for a while.

When we beat them this year, lets just take a picture with the boot. Give them the trophy to take back to Arkansas and be done with it.

Glad you confirmed that for me, can't wait to call in and remind him of this

I'd rather keep Arkansas as our opponent during rivalry week.
