Why kickoff in the NFL anymore?

It's a waste of time. Just give the ball to the offense on the 25 yard line and begin play. The only reason I see for kickoffs is the time for networks to get advertising in.

That's the point. If they can't get it eliminated, then make it irrelevant. Their argument is that the most serious injuries occur on special teams plays.

I do understand they can still have an onside kick but if they are just kick the ball into the stands every time remove onside kicks from the game as well.

Is that an accurate assessment? Most of the broken necks I have seen did not come on special team plays.

Meh, I think it was pretty overexagerrated last night due to where they were kicking. While yes, returns have been down, I don't think it will be that bad the rest of the season.
Hell I could probably boot the ball at least 30 yards up in Denver

no kicks, no punts, only pat's and field goals. that would be great.

also, no being able to chunk the ball out of bounds if you are a q.b. You are only able to throw it out of the endzone.

This. Most of those kickoffs last night still would have been touchbacks even before they moved it up.

Dude, in 3 years, they will be playing 2 hand touch. Especially with the class action law suite that the players just won. NFL is responsible, but ESPN is being the good lapdogs they are and nearly every game, bitch about how dangerous football is. Bunch of pussies.

They had a kick return to the house in the super bowl last season.

It was just greatly exaggerated due to the conditions and high elevation in Denver.

They figured that if the kicks were 8 yards deep, they wouldn't bother returning them. And the kicking team probably figured that too. That's why we get 108 yard kick returns every three weeks now.

Even before they moved the spot, most touchdowns on kick offs were longer than 100 yards.

Just give em the 3 points on KO if they make it through the uprights.

Kickoffs won't be around soon... I give it 5-10 years longer, max.

A lot of ignorant and reactionary nonsense in this thread.

You do realize that on a warm day at Mile High Stadium a football will travel considerably farther than one at C-level. Normally the KR will catch the ball about 5yds deep with new rule. The more talented guys will take a shot on the return.

I've always thought something like this needs to be given consideration. Maybe not 3 points, but maybe 1 point? To be able to kick it 75 yards and still make have the accuracy to get it through the uprights isn't exactly easy.

Some of the most exciting plays occur on kick returns.

I'd hate to see them go.
