Has anyone had any success using a salt and pepper rub for smoked brisket? If so, worth a try?
I have not been to Franklin BBQ or JMueller BBQ in Austin, but they "supposedly" only use salt and pepper (aka Dalmatian Rub) on their brisket.

Thanks - I am going to give it a go with a choice brisket first. Equal parts salt and pepper?
Do you think The Austin Pit Masters put something sweet in there mop spray? A little white sugar in the rub?
I often use water, cider vinegar and Worcestershire sauce.

Yes - Youtube has Aaron Franklin on there as well, but I am sure he has a few secrets he is not sharing.
Coarse pepper and sea salt rub it is! Do you think Franklin and Mueller use a secret mop spray?
I have smoked a ton of brisket and pork but this rub will be a first.

Also watch the video of the rub going on. Basically they shake it on in an even layer and equal parts.

I did franklins method a few weeks ago and it came out great.

I used the Franklin method on my first brisket a few months back....it was amazing! Just salt and pepper. Smoked for 6 1/2 hours at 250. Took off and sprayed with Apple cider vinegar and little hot sauce and then wrapped. Then back on the smoker for a little over two hours. Everyone loved it.

Nice smoke ring and bark! Looks awesome!
Everyone has loved my smoked brisket but I want to venture out a bit and change it up. Excited about the Franklin/Mueller method. I will try the Dalmatian rub on choice and then trim a prime brisket if all comes out well.
