First Auction Draft tonight... advice please

I wouldn't spend the money on AP, Brees, calvin, or Rodgers unless they go for a lot less than they are worth. Especially at qb there is just too much talent to waste a large portion of your purse.

It will take longer than expected.

Put out a kicker until you get one for $1. Some will actually play a few bucks for a kicker.

Don't put out guys you want, hold them off as long as possible.

Also, it's good to sit back and get value at the end but don't wait too long. People feel the need to have someone and that's how bidding wars begin. I got screwed by McCoy for $29 in a $100 budget. Foster, Richardson and Charles all went around 26-24 bucks. He was the last stud left and everyone was sitting on 60-40 bucks.

My advice is get the players you want early and throw out players you don't want in positions you need. Ex. I had Ryan and Julio so I threw out Jackson because I knew I didn't need him. Someone spend $ on a back. Less competition going forward. Then go after the RB you want on the board.

You need to take a little time before the draft and figure out how much you're willing to spend for each position. So for example, if you want to spend $120 on your top two RBs, then you know you have $180 to budget for the rest of your team. Then if you want to spend $25 on a QB, you know you're down to $155 for the rest of your team, etc.

So how much you spend on your most expensive player is relative. Again, in the $120 RB1&2 scenario, you could spend $60 on Jamaal Charles and $60 on CJ Spiller, or you could spend $80 on AP and know that your RB2 will have to be closer to $40 (all hypothetical numbers, I haven't done an auction draft with a $300 purse, mine's always been $200).

And once you have this done, just remember that each draft is different so you need to be fluid with your budget. If you spend $126 on your RBs when you budgeted for $120, that's ok. Just make adjustments in other areas to compensate. And if you end up only spending $116, you know you have a little more to play with other places.

And follow the Average Draft Price as a general guideline for players, but don't follow it to the letter. If you REALLY like someone like, say Matt Forte, and his ADP is $38, but you expect big things from him, then it's ok if you go a little more than that for him. Spending the extra few bucks to get the guy you love will almost always end in having a better team at the end of the draft.
