Defensive Positional Breakdown from TCU Game

Defensive Line: B
Ferguson was a MAN last night. Primed for a big year! Johnson seems to be putting a lot of pressure on himself. Not sure I like him at the lower weight. He still had a solid game, but Ego shined. Also was very impressed with Allen. Didn't really know what to expect from him, but he was getting consistent pressure on the QB. As was Hunter. Rasco was not the dominant force we all expected, but you realize that he was held out of a lot of fall practice, recuperating from the shoulder surgery. I expect to see a dominant DE rotation by the time we roll into Georgia. Maclin got caught on that read play, but he looks like he is finally ready to contribute.
Concerns: Depth. Thomas did not look good in there. He looked a little lost/tentative. The one thing you don't want in a DT. Lacouture was in there for a couple of plays, and I think he will be playing a lot this year. We will probably see some Mickey Johnson when we play bigger teams that run up the middle.
Linebackers: C
Really seemed to struggle getting off blocks and getting to the ball. Don't think Welter is the answer at MLB. He got caught in traffic several times, and made a couple of misreads. 4 combined tackles from Barrow and Welter, and none from Louis. Alexander is the most impressive, but only played a small portion of the snaps.
Concerns: A lot! Will Tahj Jones make a difference? Can they figure out how to get Beckwith in the LB rotation. Only play I saw him on last night, he had his hand on the ground at rush end. When we get to Georgia, we will need a stouter presence at LB to stop their running game.
Defensive Backs: A
Really like our secondary. Mills is a star in the making. Collins was very good, as was Eugene. I love me some Poppa, but he had an easy pick six, had he just been more ball aware. Martin is a solid, if unspectacular, presence back there. Liked what I saw from Thomas as well.
Concerns: None. Would like to see what the backup corners do in the next two games. Also, has Thompson progressed from last year. We'll soon find out.

Yes, but Eugene came in as nickel for a large portion of the snaps, and Kwon went out. Leaving Barrow and Welter as the two LBs on the field most of the time.

You need to watch a replay of the game.

Ok. Thought so. Didn't think about how much we were in nickel. Definitely gotta do something about Welter. He is Dunson 2.0 Don't understand why he would get the nod over Kwon's speed. Oh well, that's what film study is for. We'll be seeing some personnel changes soon. Next 2 games will be ample opportunities for young guys to make a case for pt.

Was at the game. Haven't gotten a chance to see it on TV. He looked disruptive when in the game. Missed an obvious fumble recovery, but he looked to be in the backfield more than Freak ever got.

The good: The secondary played well. Freak is well a freak.
The Bad: Our D-line did get maintained a bit.
CRAIG LOSTON TRYING TO SHOW OFF! I don't know what the problem was but his tackling was garbage.
All in all I enjoyed the game.

Loston had a good game. Just needs to watch for the ball more. He's a hitter.

I worked on a job once and one of my welders was a pretty young black woman. My superintendent came up to me and said that I needed to get rid of her because every time he was out in the field, she had guys talking to her instead of doing their job. I told him to look around. I pointed out groups of men standing together talking everywhere. He said, thanks for pointing it out. I told him that the only reason he noticed her is because she was an attractive female. Point being. Welter stands out. Yes, his game sucked at times. But, which linebacker stood out doing anything good? As a group they all were lacking. All! The Chief has his work cut out for him with this group. But, he has time and bodies enough to make corrections.

loston seemed a step slow because of the new launching rule. he wasn't bringing the lumber like usual and seemed to be making sure hits were clean

I also wanted to say that the Micah/ Loston combo will be sick!

Jalen Collins scares me when he does the 'speedbump' tackle. He doesn't wrap up.
Reminds me of Danny McCray or Harry Coleman.
