Things to do with canned green beans

I eat them a lot, mostly because it's quick to heat up while I cook or reheat something else. I don't have time to cook much during the week so if I do it has to be quick. Right now I pretty much just throw in a can of diced potatoes and some Tony's. Any suggestions on something else to do with them that doesn't take up more time?

TIA

Agreed, but I stockpiled canned ones from SAMs. And canned potatoes. So yea.

re: Things to do with canned green beans

A woman at my office puts bacon and onions in them with Tony's as suggested above and cooks them down. I was pretty surprised that I liked them when I tasted them. I'm not a fan of canned green beans and I have to say "no" to canned potatoes. I just can't do those. Shoepeg corn is about the only canned vegetable I can handle other than the green beans on rare occasions. I've also had them cooked wrapped in bundles with bacon with brown sugar sprinkled on top. Those the long ones that aren't cut, though. I had them years ago.

Have you tried the frozen steamed beans? I haven't, but I'm wondering if they're better than the canned.

Lemon juice, canola oil and salt. Enjoy.

I hadn't even thought of that. Might give it a try.

I really don't mind canned green beans. Or potatoes. And they're quick. And I'm a poor student so I have to save where I can

buying fresh vegetables is cheaper .. i.e. - a better value, actually.

Drain can and and rinse with water, takes a lot of the salt out and makes them taste lots better

Green bean artichoke casserole. Top with bread crumb and parm reg cheese. Normally use French style green beans and progresso artichoke hearts.

exactly Walt. also, I don't buy the don't have time to cook excuse. I work 10-12 hour days and have a lot of other shite going on and still never have to resort to canned or frozen dinners. just have to learn how to manage your time and food budget better. that'll come. hose is just a kid still so he gets a pass.

I hear ya. How will they keep fresh?

I don't plan out when I'll cook what bc my schedule won't really allow it, it depends on where I am with studying that evening.

What about the " I dont feel like cooking excuse "

I like to cook personally, but not some days.

I know. I cooked a lot in college and when I was working, but this is a different animal
It doesn't help that I'm a little too spontaneous, I don't plan anything. One day I'll grow up.

depends on how fresh they are, when they were picked, obviously.. but I think once you grab some at the store you can throw em in a airtight bag and store them in the fridge for at least 3 or 4 days. I had some butternut squash last me 10 days recently before I got around to cooking it.

Nothing wrong with that. Go grab some takeout or go to dinner. Dumping a can of veggies in a bowl and heating it up isn't "cooking" anyways.
