I enjoyed it. It's not for everybody that's for sure.

A movie that got tons of critical acclaim and garnered a best actress nod, looked "incredibly bad" from the unidentified parts you saw?

Shut up.

I watched it last night actually. It's not terrible, per se, just not for everybody. I wouldn't watch it again, but glad I saw it kind of movie. Not really long. Has a deep, symbolic, post-katrina survival/inspirational message. Honestly, I remember this movie getting a lot of attention at the Academy Awards and didn't want to watch it because I thought it took place in Africa.

It was okay, but not what I was expecting.

The little girl's performance was better than the movie

It's one of those, "If you don't like it, you're not hip or enlightened enough" kinda deals.

No, it's one of those watch the movie before telling someone it looks incredibly bad things.

Though I went into it thinking I was going to be disappointed based on the subject matter, I ended up thinking it was a solid movie. Looking forward to seeing what that director does next.

The two main characters were locals from Houma( I think) LA. They had no prior acting experience. They did a great job. Solid movie.

It was a beautifully shot movie. Acting was pretty good. The plot left something to be desired.

I liked it, thought they did a good job with the character development of the dad and the relationship between him and the little girl was oddly heartwarming(sort of)
