Also, LSU did nothing to deserve a higher rank. If any other team in the country went 10-3 and lost that many players, would you put them in the top 10?
LSU did nothing to deserve a higher rank? Well they beat two teams in the top 10. Who else did that? UF.

They wont all 4 be in the top 10 after a couple weeks. Yes, there should be no poll until the first of September. These are NOTHING but a guess right now.
Top ten or not, we have one of the toughest schedules in the country, again. We basically play all the best teams in the sec minus USC this year. So thats just like saying we play 4 of the best teams in the country. Sec is the best conference dont care where they are ranked. They are still good teams.

Preseason polls are not that important for the team that wins the SEC.
Having a comparatively easier SEC schedule is much more important.
Thank god and the SEC administrative office employees for our never ending SEC winning bridge schedules.

I remember when preseason rankings used to be so bad that if a team had a decent qb returning they would be top 5.

That was last year dude. This is a new year. Remember when Auburn won that national championship? Yeah, I'm pretty sure they were a preseason 20 something the year after that. Go home.

Auburn wasn't ranked when they won their title

That's a fair start in the rankings. We knew we were going to have to fight our way up starting with TCU.

Losing to an ACC team in a lesser bowl game does little to enhance a team's national prestige. Thankfully its time to put all that behind us and start fresh. #optimism

Listen, I'm an LSU fan and have been for close to twenty years now. But, there are other leagues in the nation that are good. The Pac 12 is arguably, the second best league at this point. So, no..............Stanford is not the product of a "bad league". They beat Oregon with the same philosophy that we beat them a couple of years ago. Stanford's defense is built like an SEC defense. Do they have the overall speed that an LSU or Alabama defense has...? No. But they do wreak havoc with their front seven and they have speed in the defensive secondary. Take off the purple and gold glasses and give the Cardinal their due. I know one thing..........if we were playing them instead of TCU in the Cowboys Classic, I'd be a lot more nervous about this first game. TCU will be a blowout...................Stanford would be closer than a lot of LSU folks expected.
Never said they weren't a good team. If you believe only 4 teams in America could beat Stanford then it's a weak year in football. I don't wear purple and gold glasses, the athletes on the field tell the tale and Stanford's skill wouldn't cut it against the elite in my humble opinion.
By the way, what quality teams outside of Oregon is in that league? They may be second best but overall it's a distant second.

PAC 12's Best Teams this Season:
1. Oregon: elite year in, year out
2. Stanford: Defending P12 Champs haven't missed a beat with Shaw
3. Arizona State: lots of talent for Todd Graham
4. USC: Sanctions depleted but still dangerous.
5. Oregon State: Riley consistently does more w/less
6. Arizona: RichRod's got a good offense, avg. D
7. ucla: Star QB in Hunley, Franklin to NFL, Defensive questions for Jim Mora Jr.
8. Cal: Rebuilding but still some talent there for new Coach Sonny Dykes.
The rest of the teams won't be very good, but it's as solid a league as there is outside the SEC. There aren't many "gimme" wins in the conference, especially on the road.
