Swat teams attack.........a family farm

Thank God we have these guys to keep us safe!

quote:

A small organic farm in Arlington, Texas, was the target of a massive police action last week that included aerial surveillance, a SWAT raid and a 10-hour search.

quote:

The police seized "17 blackberry bushes, 15 okra plants, 14 tomatillo plants ... native grasses and sunflowers," after holding residents inside at gunpoint for at least a half-hour, property owner Shellie Smith said in a statement. The raid lasted about 10 hours, she said.

quote:

said the police didn't produce a warrant until two hours after the raid began, and officers shielded their name tags so they couldn't be identified. According to ABC affiliate WFAA, resident Quinn Eaker was the only person arrested -- for outstanding traffic violations.

Sounds like their time was well spent getting these dangerous criminals off the street. Didn't they have some hookers they could have shaken down?

quote:

Other raids have been conducted on food co-ops and Amish farms suspected of selling unpasteurized milk products.

God forbid people are given the choice on what products they would like to buy.

re: Swat teams attack.........a family farm

The raid on the Garden of Eden farm appears to be the latest example of police departments using SWAT teams and paramilitary tactics to enforce less serious crimes. A Fox television affiliate reported this week, for example, that police in St. Louis County, Mo., brought out the SWAT team to serve an administrative warrant. The report went on to explain that all felony warrants are served with a SWAT team, regardless whether the crime being alleged involves violence.

In recent years, SWAT teams have been called out to perform regulatory alcohol inspections at a bar in Manassas Park, Va.; to raid bars for suspected underage drinking in New Haven, Conn.; to raid a gay bar in Atlanta where police suspected customers and employees were having public sex; and to perform license inspections at barbershops in Orlando, Fla.

If you get all this cool military hardware and training you gotta use it for something!

So after reading the article it appears that the neighbors were pissed about the property not looking "good." Seems that some of these neighbors apparently filed a false report about this organic farm growing marijuana so they could force the cops to act.

I can understand if you think a property in your area may be or actually is violating certain covenants or whatever but to (likely) make false accusations and for the police to bring out what amounts to an assault team is overkill. They are lucky no one got hurt.

Ummm, can we just leave these people alone please. I mean, seriously, I am pretty sure there are to many problems in the world to be worried about the "criminal" activity of the Amish.

especially when said "criminal" activity, involves nothing more than "unpasteurized" milk.

We need to demilitarize the police force immediately. they're not capable enough to handle this kind of power and responsibility. Also I know why most people get into LE and it isn't because they were the best and brightest but wanted to be a public servant.

I'm pretty sure if that happened to me as an 18-year old college freshmen, I would have pissed my pants...literally.

I would have hauled off the blackberry plants and okra for free. In the last few years the things declared illegal on farms, and the severity of justice agents deployed to the scenes of raids has become a war on farmers.

The only way to stop this is to pressure the DA to prosecute the officers.

If they don't do it, vote out the DA.

If you guys are interested in WHY these events are taking place, and there have been a slew of them recently, check out Radley Balko's new book, "Rise of Warrior Cop".

re: Swat teams attack.........a family farm

An entire generation of Americans have been conditioned by "Cops", and the ones growing up now are viewing "SWAT" teams in cities and accepting that as the norm for American streets and the police in cities they patrol. That is the truth for cities. The truth for American internal politics can be viewed in the events amassing as all of the scandals emanate almost daily from DC. Nothing strikes anyone as being crazy in acceptability over reach by our govt. anymore. Oboe give a speech about how and why it really isn't as bad as it was being portrayed and made to look like a scandal aimed at him and his dumbasses. Two days later it is announced that it was a whole lot greater in scope and depth than the press or anyone else had admitted.

Does it matter if it is the swat vs just regular cops? i agree it is a bit over the top, but would they have done anything different if they were wearing their regular uniforms?
