While I was in Mexico I decided to pick up some tequila to bring home. They actually had a tequila bar set up in the airport to sample anything you wanted. So far the only one I have opened is the 1921 tequila cream. I have found it to be quite tasty. Will try some of the sipping tequilas later. You really do not hear much about sipping tequilas in the United States.
While my wife and I were at the National Championship game in Glendale a few years ago we went into a Tequila bar in Scottsdale AZ that had some Tequilas that were $80 a shot. They had like 150 different Tequilas on their menu.

When I visit Houston I always try to go to TQLA.

They have something like 120+ tequilas there with 7 or so being on tap. Awesome place.

I love tequila.

Best tequila I've ever had is the Heradura Anejo Reposado. $80 a bottle here in L.A., but I can get it in Mexico for less than half that.

Anyone ever try the Avion tequila? I hear it advertised a lot lately. Usually though if something is really good you don't have to advertise the hell out of it.

Don Julio 1942, but Don Julio Real blows it away. Have a shot on the bday annually to start the night off right. The also make a 70th anniversary that's really good.

Tanteo just hit here and their jalapeño infused one makes a great strawberry Rita.

It's in my top 5.

Partida is another great brand with the usual offerings of; Blanco, Reposado, & Añejo. In addition Partida offers their Elegante line which is an Extra Añejo & one worth sampling.

Honestly the best one I have is Heradurra Selection Suprema. It runs $250+ but is unbelievably smooth. I also received a gift of six single village mezcals once and they are amazing. Being able to taste the nuisances across the villages is like sipping different California cabs in a tasting- absolutely wonderful.

Porfidio used to be one of the best tequilas, but disappeared for many years. Not sure of the true story of what happened but there are a ton of fakes of that product.

On the other hand, paradiso by el Tesoro was a collaboration with a cognac maker and one hell of a sipping tequila.

As far as super premiums, the herradura is great, dos Lunas makes a nice one at an outrageous price (a few thousand dollars lol), patron platinum is crap.

Something to keep in mind when buying tequila is what your typical preference is and which are harvested from the same area. Basically agave is grown in both the highlands and lowlands of this area lending different flavors. The highlands produce fruitier, more mature flavors while the lowlands lend towards a drier and more vegetal style. I prefer highland products personally, but will drink quality tequila regardless.
