Business owners threatened, legal action; refusing facility for gay wedding

quote:

GRIMES, IA, August 12, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A Christian couple is facing a state complaint, business cancellations, and vulgar, harassing, and threatening e-mail messages after refusing to rent out a business facility for a gay “wedding.”

Dick and Betty Odgaard said they could not in good conscience allow a homosexual couple to use their business, the Görtz Haus Gallery, to conduct the ceremony itself.

“To us, [marriage] is a sacrament,” Betty Odgaard said, that exists only “between a man and woman.”

She told Billy Hallowell of The Blaze their rejection was “totally a faith-based issue,” adding the couple would be happy to serve the homosexuals “in any other way,” besides being the site on which they traded vows.

The couple quickly filed a legal complaint before the Iowa Human Rights Commission, saying that state law forbids any public venue from denying the use of its premises on the basis of sexual orientation.

As the story of their denial broke, frightening messages began filling up the Odgaard’s inbox, the couple says.

“F–k you, f–k your God, f–k your religion,” said one message from an angry gay rights activist. The same writer enlarged upon his thoughts, adding, “You are mean, rude, selfish, mother f—er racist sons of b—hes from hell.”

I'd say I'm surprised, but I would be lying.

Move along. We have the personal assurances of Toddy that there exists no agenda that is being waged as a war against a segment of the minds, hearts, and souls on the nations populace.

What happens if a couple of fat assed lesbians just like the way that the waves from my pool glimmer in the moonlight against the trees behind my fence? And decide to say their vows there? And I say frick no?

Really. How far away from silly shite like this are we?

Pretty close.

maybe. But I guess it depends on what "public venue" means. At first I assumed it meant a venue supported with public funds.

But it might not be the case according to Iowa law:

quote:

Donna Red Wing, executive director of One Iowa — which advocates for rights for same-sex couples — said that as a public venue, Gortz Haus is not protected under Iowa civil rights rules to deny services based on sexual orientation.

Since the Iowa Supreme Court case Varnum v. Brien in 2009, Iowa has legally recognized same-sex marriage, but religious institutions are not required to recognize or perform such marriages.

Gortz Haus “cannot be confused with a religious institution,” Red Wing said. “The Odgaards provide a service to the public that must accommodate all Iowans, including the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.”

It doesn't matter. I hope rights of the Christian couple are upheld but the fact that the state is erroneously aligned with the gay couple says a lot about the political climate we live in today. Gays with liberal progressive money backing will repeat these challenges everywhere they can in an effort to change the attitude of the majority of our citizens. As I have stated many times, it boils down to a head on collision between freedom of religion and civil rights of homosexuals. Gays basically want to force religious acceptance or better yet abolish religion all together.

They should just close up shop, fire their employees and quit paying taxes required to run a business. Then put an ad in the paper stating that due to the lawsuit, x amount of people are no unemployed and the state now receives x amount of dollars less in tax revenue. All because two gays couldn't just find somewhere else to get married and wanted to make a spectacle of themselves and make a quick buck.

I thought this was settled with the Woolworth's lunch counter back in the 60s.

Precisely.

They are just gay hippies of peace that love everybody and don't want to force their agenda onto others.

Our biggest problems in society are due to the break down of the traditional family. So to gays: I say, get married, no one cares, be happy, raise kids, announce your divorce or anniversary on Oprah like everyone else. But don't you dare try to force any type of gay agenda into schools!

And don't comment before you watch the video.

on the basis of sexual orientation

Are they denying them because of gender? NO. It is being denied based on what they want to do in that facility. It is against the couples religion for such and should be respected by the government. The government will recognize many items and issues regarding religion, but will not defend Christians and religious ideals.

You can not serve in the military in the name of a religion, you can wear certain unauthorized garb, you can deny working certain areas of a job, you can make people tolerate your religion, but not if you are Christian.

Christians must always be Forced to relent.

if you read above, there's a law that addresses the discrimination in places designated public venues. The right to refuse service isn't carte blanche, apparently.

Public venues can be privately owned. You can not tell a business what he can and can't do with his own business.

Well, i used to think that, until Obamacare stripped away those rights.
