I've always noticed he has a natural tendency to leave his feet to catch balls, where I think he might have much better yards after the catch production if he's targeted in stride.

Do you notice this too? If so, do you chalk it up to Mett's overthrows or a bad habit.

I'm sure he's just trying to "high point" the ball.

Sometimes. I fell like he did it a lot his freshman year

It's a bad habit unless the ball is just high and he HAS to go get it... coaching staff will fix it. No worries

I've noticed this with most LSU wr for as long as I can remember. I don't remember doucet ever catching a ball with his feet on the ground

Exactly. Sometimes you'll see guys not catch a ball that seems very catchable. However if you try to catch the ball at the highest point every time, you'd realize how difficult it is to come down with consistently.

It takes awareness to know when it should be done.

Worst thing ever is when a WR tries to catch it at the high point when he's beaten a CB deep. Instead of running under the ball and letting the ball lead him, they allow the DB to, at least, prevent a TD.

Have noticed this also, but I have a feeling this will be corrected. It is just a bad habit to jump for every ball.

One of my favorite things about that game was the Quinn Johnson block on the game winning TD. (12:55)

it is taught to catch the ball at its highest point...not sayin that everytime he does it its needed but it helps with him being only about 6'0" to just go ahead and jump up and get it

I think Mett does need to do better on specific routes where he should be hitting his receivers in stride, but some throws are meant to be in a target area where only the athletic OBJ and Landry can catch them. For example, while they are in a pack of defenders across the middle.

Agreed that some of these throws may be specifically designed as such, but it would be nice to see more WRs breaking TD runs after the catch rather than immediately being tackled.

I haven't really noticed this problem. However I know a great deal of our passes last year were either stop routes, slants, in/out routes all in congested areas where most of the throws were high and away from the defender.

I've never noticed OBJ failing to gain YAC because he unneccesarily left his feet. Hopefully this year we will be able to get our playmakers in space with more of an opportunity to make plays.

It really depends on the pass. In tight coverage it brings him back to the ball, and allows him to attack it at the highest point.
