What does this 2013 squad have in common with the '03, '07, and '11 squads? We enter the football season with a senior qb at the reigns. The last THREE senior qbs to start a season at LSU have lead us to the national championship game.

With the influx of talent we get from the frosh, and the most talented OL we have boasted since '07, mettenberger is primed to lead us to the promised land.

This LSU squad is going to be a nightmare to defend. We going to the ship!

ETa: apparently Mauck wasnt a senior. Flynn, JJ, and JL were though.

Matt Mauck was not a senior, he was just old.

Mauck was a redshirt junior in 2003.

I like where your heads at, BigEd. I think LSU has a great opportunity to fly under the radar and make a run. 13' squad will be hungrier than last last years squad. IMO

It will all come down to offensive execution in the 4 "Big Games" this season.

LSU can literally run over about 70% of its schedule

If LSU can get one more first down VS Bama and Clemson neither one of those teams is able to rally

And if the Offense was able to score just 17 points @ Florida the Tigers would have been undefeated

Exactly. It seems like a Herculean effort is needed, when reality is just a few first downs away.

Why set yourselves up for a big let down? Why not just take the season as it comes?

That is all I am doing. People are having ridiculous expectations with all this new blood on D. Talented sure, but the last two years prove nothing is written in stone as far as the NC goes.

I expect the worst and hope for the best this year. I am not being let down.

Ridiculous expectations? New Blood on D isn't even what I'm remotely worried about.....Stay Fat Bastard

Probably not going to happen considering where our offense has been ranked over the last 5 years. But I share your enthusiasm that if we even have a top 50 offense that can (1) capitalize on turnovers, (2) run out the clock when we have a lead, and (3) not put the burden completely on the defense/ST to win games, then we'll have a great year.

Why not be excited about the new blood on D? Last year all our household names underachieved. New blood is exactly wat we need, some actual enthusiasm and hunger.
