Here's Some Rant fer ya.

It won't be all bad rant though. I love me some good ole tough CLM mentality! I love that the Tiger OL is stacked two deep with physical maulers!
What I don't like is the fact that I have been forced to sit through some of the sorriest excuse for offense that a blue chip studded squad could possibly field.
This isn't the first year that WRs are holding back from committing because of sorry pass offense. We have been lucky to get the guys that we have but look at what they have been doing on the field. Not just last year either, look at all of the NFL receivers who had less than draftable stats in their money years.
Think about DeAngelo Peterson for a second. What in the heck were they thinking when they stuck that beast on the durned line instead of using him as a huge mismatch against most of the secondary and a blocking beast for tosses and bubble screens. You all remember how Mauck used Skyler on those bubbles? Any LSU fan that doesn't know that Clayton was the best blocking receiver in the NCAA that year isn't worth his board name in my book. There is no way that we win it all in '03 without Clayton's blocking and Peterson might have given us something similar if he wouldn't have been bulked up as a receiving TE that was thrown to once every game if he was lucky.
And how in the heck do these smaller programs field offenses with a QB who can actually go through progressions as a freaking freshman? I would have thought that such an animal is a rare gem indeed after following the Tigers for a while.
The Chief has been fielding a defense that has been so far ahead of the O that they don't even look like they should be on the same field at times. The O would run out there and abuse their opponents and score like they were bitch slapping 4th graders around the field for a possession and then go three and out 3 or more times in a row!
Well, it really isn't hard to figure out if you actually pay attention. Any FB player or avid fan can tell you that nobody has respected LSU's passing game since Crowton's first year. In fact, if the Tiger's D would not have been stacked with nasty mofo's three deep then Les would be in Michigan this year if they would have taken him.
The good news is that that crap is over. Thank god.
Really though, I don't know how much more of that I could take. I love me some Les and all but damn the O was tough to watch 4 out of 5 possessions.
So what will change? Are the receivers going to start catching the damn ball? Is the OL going to take some new vitamins? Well, I do hope to see less dropped balls but the fact of all of that is that you can't expect receivers to make clutch catches when they have built no rhythm with the QB. You can't expect the QB to get into any kind of rhythm if the OL can't pass protect. You can't expect the OL to be able to pass protect for long in the SEC if the defenses are blitzing like they know what you are going to do.
I guess it really comes down to predictability and rhythm. The article that was linked in a recent post has a quote about only having one play for a certain formation. I would rather see them line up in just the I-form all game than run around foolishly like Crowton had them doing in '08.
And still though, this new OC is bringing much more than just that. It looks like he might be bringing a simplified pro system to these kids. That sounds pretty damn good to me. After all, aren't they college kids? Aren't they trying to get drafted after a few years?
Some of the quotes said things like "we are doing more different things but the scheme isn't hard to learn at all"... at least that is what I got out of it. It sure sounds like what we've been needing.
Yep, it isn't just about less dropped balls. It isn't about a more complicated system taking away the predictability. Other college staffs have their guys executing beautifully. The Tigers aren't going to look like an Oregon in one year but they can take a few steps towards a scheme that will not only make them unpredictable, but the staff will be able to change the plays seamlessly and quickly to back out of those plays that the opponents do predict.
And then comes that rhythm thing. The receivers start catching the balls and Mett starts to show his strengths better since the OL is having an easier time with the defenses of balance and not substituting. Then comes the kind of rhythm that rests the defense instead of throwing them back on the field after three plays and a punt.
And then comes the crystal again. We've been damned close. Really, only one team has stopped us from winning the NC the last two years... and they won it the last two years. A rematch gone bad and a last minute comeback in our back yard after piss poor offense cant ear up any clock late in the 4th qtr.
The last two years are going to make these next few years pretty freaking sweeeeeeet boys. As long as this OC delivers like I think that he will, crystal will come in the next couple of years. And with that nice and shiny new offense comes some nice and dominant playmakers as well. Instead of just pulling trench warriors from across the nation, we will start seeing receivers and top 100 RBs giving us much love.
With a competent offense we will start to see what the Tigers are truly capable of achieving. No team will be of any real concern. I laugh when I think of how much trouble we cause Saban without an offense. It will be nice to run up another five year win streak up against the gumps... dare I say it?
Well there's my long winded 4am rant and screw yall if ya don't like it. I'm goin fishin damnit

Great post and pretty much how I see it.
Les dicked around with the OC position far too long. Now that he's hired a top notch guy in Cam Cameron, all he needs to do is stay out of his way. Just be the GM/CEO of LSU's program and let these guys do what they were hired to do.
Les obviously has the recruiting machine working on all cylinders, and his players love playing for him.
He's gonna make all his doubters look pretty damn silly in the very near future me thinks.

You get an A for effort and time spent on this post.

I am not greedy I just want the offense to average about 45 points a game.

Someone should request a sticky. Rant is on point. Cant wait for the offense to start catching up with the defense with on field performance. When that happens look out. LSU and BAMA will own college football for many years.

I read your rant because Chicken gave you one of these " "....What I get from your rant, is that it has taken Les quite a few years to see what any casual, let alone die-hard LSU fan already knew about LSU's miserable & pathetic offense.
I'm hopeful that our goofy & stubborn head coach has seemingly come to grips with what everyone besides him knew about 5 years ago.

You really hit it out of the park with this rant. I think all the points you made about the offense and the team were right on. I think most LSU fans feel this way. Just think if we had just an adequate offense the past couple of years what could have been! Hope you catch a lot of fish.
