Looking back at the Saints Super bowl season in 2009-10, they were very fortunate that year. I don't really remember them having any major injuries or losing any key guys during the season, and for once, the defense played well enough to complement the offense, that way the Saints could go all the way to the big stage and succeed.

Granted, the Saints had a very solid team that year and they worked hard for that Super Bowl title, myself and all Saints fans will relish that title forever.

It just seems, in the NFL, there are so many things that can either derail a season or make it so much more difficult: injuries, suspensions, poor play on either side of the ball... and with the Saints losing several guys to season ending injuries before the season has even started, it makes you wonder if the injury bug will inflict a lot of pain this year for the Saints.

With all that said, it just seems like so much has to happen for a team to win the Super Bowl. Just ask the Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns, Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles, etc., who have been around for decades and still have not won a Super Bowl.

That's why the NFL is the greatest of all the pro sports leagues by a country mile.

it is the definition of an organized team sport.

One player goes down, it doesn't always mean the end of the world. I mean brady went down and matt cassel took them to a 11-5 season. Brian cushing went down last year and houston defense still had a monster season.

Of course there are some high caliber players that if you lose them it would make a big difference because the team never prepared that well for it to happen, manning and indy, but for the most part gaining a single superstar won't make you infinitely better (philly and the "dream team")

The way I see it, as long as you have a top tier quarterback, you have a chance.

We have the best play-caller in the league, along with one of the best players at the most important position. We have a chance, and that's more than a lot of teams can realistically say.

... the old "Fallback on some historic event cause my team did well then but sucks now" logic.

I love you guys. Reminds me of a lot of Bama fans in the 90s and early 2000's.

Our starting left tackle went down before the beginning of the season and we had to start a guy who had played in 3 games total before the season.

We also had to bring Mike McKensie from the dead because our corners kept getting hurt. Sharper missed time too.

Was an amazing year, but injuries to pretty much anyone except number 9 don't have to stop the train.

Hell, what about Chris McAlister?!? The cornerbacks that year were banged up pretty bad. Neither of those guys played before the New England game, and neither one has played a game past that season! It goes to show when you get pressure and turnovers what kind of talent you can play on defense.

Your team continues to choke and suck it up when it matter most and you come over here with that......
Typical Falcons fan being ignorant to the fact that your on team can't get it done when it matters most, and even when the Saints are down at there lowest since 06 the Falcons still lose to the Saints. Get over yourself with the "Fall back on some historical event..." bs. It was way more recent than anything the falcons have to cheer about any they still have fans.....o wait I don't know if you can call what y'all have fans

Wasn't the Saints first full season of sellouts in 2006? Calm down with your wanna be superiority complex.

Arguing with you aside. I'd imagine winning the Super Bowl is one tough event. Gotta get hot at the right time. I still think baseball's grueling post-season is tough as hell to win too. But at least there you can lose a game or 2 and still be alive.

MLB would be hard to win, but in the NFL every team has some sort of chance on any given year to win it. As I previously mentioned, I believe that in todays game you need a top tier, or at least a above average quarterback to have that realistic chance. That narrows it to 12-16 teams at the most.

From there, who knows what can happen. You have to have so many things bounce your way. I know for our Superbowl year I can think of numerous times where I couldn't believe how lucky we got.

I get your point but that is a mixed group.

Only four teams have never been to a Super Bowl, Detroit, Cleveland, Jacksonville, and Houston.

All the rest have been to at least one.

I remember us getting lucky against teams like the Redskins. Who basically gave us that game during the regular season. And the Dolphins which another one where we came back and won. Not to mention the Tracy Porter interceptions once we got to the big dance. But yes, we did have the ball bounce the right way that year. Every time I said to myself, please god we just need blank, whatever blank was for that game to happen. It did. It was our year.
