But Kenny Chesney is super talented and all his songs are unique and catchy and he's better than all the old country anyway and he's cute and supposed to be a nice guy and his music isn't crap and blah blah blah....

I'm a big AA fan, but I just can't seem to get into TT for some reason.

country music is like rap. It is lifestyle music and 9/10 the artist is full of shite. "my tractor is sexy" kenny chesney probably can't even drive a fricking car, much less a tractor.

if talking about radio-mainstream-country, then yea i totally agree and should be no surprise since 99% of mainstream music played on the radio today is complete garbage and made for teenage girls.

But outside of the mainstream, americana/country music is bigger than ever and there are tons of very talented musicians making music and touring today

It's a damn shame especially for someone like Petty to rely on the radio to form one's opinion of the current state of music

Tom Petty is clueless. An "artist" like Luke Bryan might be the single greatest songwriter of this generation. For example, here's a snippet from his 2011 album "Tailgates & Tanlines" -

"Cottonwood fallin' like snow in July
Sunset, riverside, 4 wheel drives
In a tail light circle

Roll down the windows, turn it on up
Pour a little crown in a dixie cup
Get the party started

[Chorus:]
Girl, you make my speakers go boom boom
Dancin' on the tailgate in a full moon
That kinda thing makes a man go mmm hmmm
You're lookin' so good in what's left of those blue jeans
Drip of honey on the money make her gotta be
The best buzz I'm ever gonna find
Hey, I'm a little drunk on you
And high on summertime

If you ain't a 10 you're a 9.9
Tippin' n' spillin' that home-made wine
On your tied up T-shirt
Every little kiss is drivin' me wild
Throwin' little cherry bombs into my fire
Good god almighty"

The lyrics you posted were from Drunk On You. Luke didn't write that song.

East Tennessee isn't rural . Nashville, Knoxville, Chattanooga, etc...doesn't make him very likely to have driven a tractor and I would bet money he never has aside from something like a video shoot.

I wish Tom Petty would expand the hoveround scooter chair ditty into a smash country hit.
