my trim is stuck in the down position. I'm pretty sure it's not a power issue or fuse because when i push the button up and down, I hear it clicking. It only clicks though. It doesn't sound like the motor is trying to do anything. If it were the hydraulic fluid, wouldn't the motor still try to push it up and down?

I guess what I am asking is does it sound like the hydraulic motor is out or might there be another more simple explanation?

it's on a 5.0L volvo I/O

ck your connections (battery). new fuse would not hurt.

so maybe it's just not pulling the amount of juice that it needs to?

Sounds like a bad solenoid to me but hard to know without a little trouble shooting. If you have a volt meter you can rule out electrical quickly at the starter/hydraulic pump.

Ok the boat cranks with no problem. That's why I don't think it's electrical unless it's only the hydraulic trim that has a bad connection.

That doesnt have anything to do with your wiring to the hydraulic pump though except battery charge. I dont believe thats your problem though. bring it to anyone who rebuilds electrical motors and your looking at about $75 for a total rebuild. Its not expensive even worse case senerio.

It's a boat, I know better!

That actually brings up another issue. I would have had it at the shop already but it is stuck in the down position, only about 8-10" clearance from the ground. Any way to crank it up somehow?

Crap, disreguard my post. For some reason I read this as hydraulic jack plate stuck, not trim

ETA: just saw its an inboard. Get a drop hitch to lower the tongue and raise the motor away from the ground.

Just had this issue. Find the solenoid for the down and switch it with the up if you're in a bind. Get a new one (or pair) and you're good to go...

Where would I look for the solenoid? Is it on the hydraulic motor?

I don't know on your motor but there seem to be a lot of threads in Volvo motors on this site:
