I enjoy supporting small farmers who work harder than anyone growing our food and depend on what they sell to support their families. Whenever I travel I'm looking for local farmer markets to visit. It's one of the last natural Saturday morning events that is not commercialized with corporate dominance. What is the best farmers market you've visited and your favorite local market where you live?

Local: The Franklin Farmers Market. I'm blessed to live in Tennessee and visit the best group of farmers I've ever been around. They bring tremendous farm produce year round every Saturday morning of the year. They just had their TomatoFest with samplings of over 20 different tomatoes including Heirlooms. I'm now a fan favorite of newly discovered Cherokee Purple and Yellow Breakfast Heirloom Tomatoes. What an education of Heirloom Tomatoes this past Saturday!

National: San Francisco Ferry Plaza Farmers Market I visit Berkeley California one or two times a year. Rain or Shine I visit this farmers market at the base of Market Street on the Bay at the Ferry Building. Incredible ready to eat food, I always go hungry and enjoy the best local fresh food there is. If you go, eat the rotisserie pork, its easy to find, the line is 40 plus long.

What experiences have you had visiting Farmers Markets?

Bought this set from a retired iron worker in shreveport. Hand crafted cedar for a good price. Best item at the shreveport farmers market

Back when I lived in central California I hit up the Salinas and the Monterey farmers markets all the time. This was back in 2006 before it was the hip thing to do. I've noticed prices are more expensive now.. at least at ones like the market in the CBD of Nola.

Austin has a nice one. And I've been growing Cherokee purple for about 6 years and they are phenomenal.

San Francisco and Marin. I've never seen anything that remotely comes close to either.

He didn't miss a detail on them either. He gave me his house number and told me if anything loosens up on them to bring the, out and he'll tighten it up.

Yeah, I have family there that I have visited 3 times. Love the little dowtown area and the locks, etc.
Also hard to beat taking the boat out and catching huge crabs out in the sound and boiling them that afternoon while sitting outside with views of Mt. Hood, etc.

Buford Hwy Farmers Market is probably the best in GA, Bourdain did a piece on it in one of his shows. It is a more of a giant supercenter tho and more international food.

I will be in San Fran in a few weeks, definitely checking out the Ferry Plaza market.

We went to Tahoe on our honeymoon. One day we went down to Truckee Ca and stumbled upon this massive hippy commune/ farmers market tent thing. You could get your cherries, LSD, maters, reefer, necklaces, squash, Jesus sandals, tofu, free love and subsequent VD all right there in one spot. Damndest thing this Richland parish lad had ever seen.

Not our pic, but one I found on their website.
