I'm watching Gremlins on Nickelodeon for the first time in many years

When the dad says "No food after midnight", what time does that start over? I mean, technically, it's always after midnight, am I right?

The writers used Baton Rouge' liquor laws as a guide.
So when you can start boozin, you can feed them again.

True story.

That's solid logic

A good theory is it is solar energy related. When some aspect of the solar energy dissipates (a few hours after sunset, in other words midnight) food gives mogwais the special evil type of heartburn. And then when the sun starts to rise, the energy that keeps that from happening comes back.

So, don't take your mogwai to Alaska or Siberia, or you can never safely feed them during the winter.

What about the water? How are those furry things supposed to get clean?

I work in a pharmacy and we sell a shampoo for bed ridden people called "no rinse"

Doesn't need any water, this must be the answer

It's between midnight and morning.

You can't be sure he eats breakfast from that picture. He could be just posing for the cereal for a huge endorsement deal

I don't think time zones throw a wrench in at all.

After midnight at the location they are in.

Start over when the sun comes up.
