Brees
Ladanian
Sproles
Gates
Vincent Jackson

Should the GM that broke that up go in as the worst bust in NFL history?

It has to suck as a chargers fan. No doubt in my mind that San Diego goes all the way in 06 with brees under center

No doubt in my mind Marty never gets fired and the nucleus of Marty, LT, and Breesus win AT LEAST 2 SBs.

Imagine how differently Marty would be viewed today.

He fired Martyball after he went 14-2 to hire Norv Turner. Don't forget they had the burner at the time too. AJ Smith sucks.

They were calling him the best GM in football at the time. I knew he was a fraud. Butler built that team.

AJ Smith is the worst GM.

Firing Marty destroyed the Chargers.

Fickle Charger fans don't care out here tho

I don't know... everything Matt Millen ever touched turned to poop. But AJ Smith did run a stacked roster into the ground.

Up until 2 years ago Rivers was as good if not better than Bress and they didn't win shite. Oh and Vincent Jackson didn't do anything in the NFL until long after Bress left

Question is, how long would they have kept P. Rivers on the bench? He was drafted in 04, sat that year and 2005 then let Brees walk.

Rivers was at no time in the same stratosphere as brees. Played in a shite division with top talent at every skill position.

I like rivers but give me a break. He's an average QB, and time is starting to prove it.

A smart GM would trade rivers in that scenario. Then again, we're talking about AJ Smith. Remember how crazy rookie salaries were. He's too expensive to be a backup.

Or there is the alternative that if Brees stays in SD he never becomes the QB he is now and is basically Phillip Rivers
