True, but that is like boasting a feature on an iphone that you need to jailbreak to enjoy.

Because plugging in an HD and formatting it is so hard?

You also have to format any HD you plug into a PS3 so you better quit boasting about it.

I don't understand why you think they can take that sort of hit while also competing against their very own products in the used games market. Used games are a billion dollar industry for Gamestop alone. That's not taking into consideration the other retailers that all deal used games.

How many devs and publishers do you think can fight that and at the same time knock substantial cost off their games digitally and still come out profitable?

WTF?

If they are no longer having to pay for the manufacture of the games and stop using stores the consumer AT A MINUMUM should now get to pay near the wholesale prices they give to retailers.

THEY AREN'T TAKING A HIT if they charge regular consumers the wholesale price or something slightly above.

Unless you want to say they would lose money b/c retailers would end up buying smaller orders of games which is ridiculous b/c hey want to move towards nothing but digital distribution anyway.

and THQ didn't die due to used games. They died b/c they were a bloated mismanaged company that produced too much garbage. Its a wonder they even made it through the 90s with all the crap they put out.

LOL...no!

They aren't going to cut out retailers 100% because they still need them to move hardware more than anything. Retailers make nothing on the hardware. Like $10 total or something crazy. They make it up on game and accessory sells. You take away games and now a retailer has zero incentive to spend money and shelf space to stock your hardware.

THQ is merely an example of a large publisher closing. I didn't say it was directly due to used games but it's naive to think that didn't hurt them.

Xbone was still going to allow used games sales just on a limited basis and also forcing Gamestop to share the second hand pie

Was not aware of that. Still some big restrictions that can potentially hurt GameStop's and other retailers' pricing structure and profitability on used and new games.

Well yeah, but that is beside the point. In the case of people who don't have the internet speed to make digital games viable, there would still be a need for retailers to sell physical copies.

Actually now that I look into it, you have to do quite a bit more than plug in an external and format for the 360.

You have to "hack" it using your PC.

Maybe I'm not searching for the right thing.

uhh if they are eventually moving to all digital games, and all signs point that way, it shouldn't matter if the retailers get pissed about hardware sales giving mediocre returns.

Its not like Sony or Microsoft make profit off console sales either BTW. All their systems sold at a loss from the get go. Only Nintendo typically makes profit off each console sale and they deviated from that business model with the WiiU.

So what? In retail there will always be someone there to fill the needs where other retailers fail. If Gamestop shuts down due to no used sales then BestBuy just takes over, or WalMart, or Amazon, etc.

The people you as a gamer should worry about supporting are the developers and publishers that make games you like. They aren't as readily available as a retail outlet and they enhance your experience way more than Gamestop ever has.

No one was stopping that from happening at all.

Man, I hope you don't run your own business because basic comprehension of how things work seems to escape you.

You have to have the hardware in peoples living rooms before you can even think about the games. You know...the whole putting the cart before the horse thing?

Neither Sony or MS have ways to distribute such quantities of consoles to consumers that having it in multiple retail outlets does and I doubt they want to. They are hardware and software manufacturers. Not retailers.

Also, without it on the shelves at say a local Walmart there is no telling how many impulse buys they would miss out on.

That has nothing to do with anything here.

To us Internet savy individuals going 100% digital and ordering from amazon is easy. We are not every body though. They have to cater to people who go to Walmart and don't live on the Internet. Hell just having a console on the shelf at Walmart is a form of advertising.

Yep.

If there was anything either company could get away with being the only place to buy something from it would be MS and Windows. Windows has too much control on the worlds computing market and people would seek it out no matter who sold it even if there was only one way to get it. MS will not do that because they aren't morons and they aren't in the retail business.

Devs only make $10-$15 dollars of a new game as is. Who do you want to kick in the $10-$15?

I get used games for $10 at GS and preorder some there because of GS bonuses. I don't give 2 shits either way. Free enterprise and capitalism. If it weren't a GS it would be another company trying to make it work. Consumers control what happens and right now consumers DGAF

i want to be able to play used games. if you dont want gamestop taking your money then find a way for me to pay for the game at a cheaper price when its 6 weeks old or dont expect me to not give gamestop my money.

Fair enough but don't be pissed when you get more DLC and cookie cutter shite products because you chose to support a retail outlet instead of the developers.

It works both ways.

Funny. Just yesterday Amazon had the $299 PS3 bundle on sale for $199 but that never happens.

The only time any promotion like that happens is when they're clearing out stock of an old model or they have a set amount from Sony that was pre-arranged to sell for that price. The 5% you see off the AC3 bundle is the about the biggest sale you'd normally see, and that 5% off is only because that bundle is going away.

The used games would still work as long as you paid a few to activate it on your console. Without paying the fee, it would not have worked under the older model. That's what was causing the big fuss, because the fee wasn't given a number but instead "about as much as the game".

Threads like this will always go on as long as you have millions of misinformed gamers and sony fanbois.

I applaud stout for fighting the good fight but some won't and never will grasp it.
