When the Rockets and Astros finished a deal to launch a regional sports network late in 2010, it was hailed as a great development for the two teams. Both could parlay the exclusive coverage into big contracts with distributors, and, at least according to estimates based on deals across the country, the subscriber fees could dwarf what the teams had made with Fox Sports.

Now, as the network has yet to secure carriage with any distributors outside of Comcast, the prospects are not so strong. David Barron of the Houston Chronicle reported Friday that the network might not get deals done until as late as 2015, nearly three years after the launch of the network. However, the outlook might even be worse than that. In response to that story, a Rockets source indicated that CSN Houston might not last that long. In fact, he noted that without a deal with the majority of carriers in the next year, the network might go under for good.

Good. F-ck CSN Houston. Because of that shite I can't watch the Astros anymore unless they're playing Texas.

I can't even watch the Astros on MLBtv because of the stupid blackout restrictions.

Yeah, read that earlier.

If this falls through, what are the other options? I mean, there's no way the Astros just won't play on TV.

Now, I though that the cable companies were being cheap, but I read that CSN Houston was asking $3.49 for their channel compared to the 2.99 the Yankees get?

A little ridiculous if you ask me. I may be just judging a book by it's cover there, but c'mon, more than YES?

One of the many shitty moves made by Postolos. At least we still have Brown.

Real fans still watch the Astros. Well, at least before they went to CSN...a network no one can catch.

CSN went all in on a bluff and a hope. it has backfired. the houston market just don't care enough...none of our teams have or will ever have the loyalty of the Yankees fans. They severely overvalued their product and now the chicks are coming home to roost.

I will say this. the quality of the coverage on CSN is the best the Houston market has ever seen. Top notch all around.

I just don't see enough Rockets support to put the kind of pressure on the parties needed to get a deal done. Until such time as the Astros become competitive there just isn't enough viewership to force the other providers into ponying up CSN's asking price.
