I'm going to randomly make my first trip to Austin this weekend and I wanted to get some suggestions on some places to eat (especially BBQ) and places to drink. So, what do you guys say?

BBQ-Franklin. You will wait in line. It will be worth it. Bring cash to Franklin, they will come around with a tray of brews/soft drinks you can buy. Mueller's is excellent as well

I'll let others chime in on Beer as I'm no expert. I ate at Hopdoddy Burger Bar and they had some good beer on tap and a tasty burger. Good poeple watching on SoCo, so I highly recommend walking that one evening.

Is the Salt Lick any good, or just a tourist spot (like Mothers)?

Banger's on Rainey has around 102 beers on tap. The Quickie-Pickie on the East Side also has a pretty good selection...as well as some pretty tasty goat sliders.

Was there last night. Had a good veggie gourmet hotdog. I would go back with a group but Rainey Street in general is little too contrived for my tastes. It's Nuevo Austin....which is very much like Dallas.

There are definitely a couple of gems over there, though. G'raj Mahal, Bangers, Bar Illegal (if you're into mezcal)...and I still <3 Lustre Pearl.

Curras rocks.

Salt Lick sucks... tourist trap.
Hit LaBBQ for beef ribs. Incredible. Franklins for brisket but a long wait.

Go to Muellers, better bbq and less wait. Need to get there 11ish. Maria's Taco Express for breakfast tacos.

- The Jester King tour is the only thing that is set in stone for the trip! Thanks for all the good advice that everyone is giving.
